Filipino virtual assistants, support agents and developers often work for companies in California, Washington and Oregon. A full 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific shift runs from 1:00 AM to 9:00 AM in Manila in winter and from midnight to 8:00 AM in summer, deeper into the night than shifts for East Coast clients. Many teams compromise on split coverage: Manila handles the Pacific morning, and the West Coast covers its own afternoon.

Because the Philippines does not use daylight saving, the US decides when the shift moves. On the second Sunday of March every Pacific-anchored schedule starts an hour earlier in Manila; on the first Sunday of November it starts an hour later. Write shift times in both zones, and avoid the label "PST", which in the Philippines usually means Philippine Standard Time.

California has the largest Filipino American population of any state, from Daly City and the Bay Area to Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles and the San Diego suburbs. Weekend calls home usually happen on a Pacific evening: 6:00 PM Sunday in California is 10:00 AM Monday in Manila in winter and 9:00 AM Monday in summer. Saturday evening on the West Coast is Sunday late morning in the Philippines, right after Mass.
