Cloud status pages, incident reports and deployment logs from the big providers are stamped in UTC, so an outage logged at 21:40 UTC happened at 1:40 PM Pacific in winter or 2:40 PM in summer. Product launches go the other way: a keynote at 10:00 AM Pacific in June is announced to the world as 17:00 UTC.

Online games and apps often reset daily challenges, leaderboards or quotas at midnight UTC. For players in California that reset lands at 4:00 PM in winter and 5:00 PM in summer, in the middle of the afternoon rather than overnight.

The offset change and the date line in your logs

UTC has no seasons. Los Angeles switches from UTC−8 to UTC−7 at 2:00 AM local time on the second Sunday of March (10:00 UTC) and back on the first Sunday of November (09:00 UTC). Dashboards that show local time will therefore have one 23-hour day in March and one 25-hour day in November; logs kept in UTC stay continuous.
