IST to PST
California is 13½ hours behind India from November to March and 12½ hours behind from March to November: 9:00 PM in Bengaluru is 7:30 AM in San Francisco in winter and 8:30 AM in summer. For most of the Indian working day, the West Coast is still on the previous date.

Bengaluru, Hyderabad and the Bay Area
The India–West Coast link is the backbone of global software. Many Silicon Valley and Seattle companies run some of their largest engineering centers outside the US in Bengaluru and Hyderabad; Microsoft and Amazon both have major campuses in Hyderabad. With a gap this wide there is no natural overlap, so teams build one: Indian engineers stay online until 9:00 or 10:00 PM IST to catch the California morning, or Californians join a 7:00 or 8:00 PM Pacific call that reaches India at 8:30 or 9:30 AM the next day in winter.
Most teams rotate the inconvenience. A pattern that works is two evening calls in India and one evening call in California each week, with everything else handled in writing.

Living half a day apart
Because India is more than half a day ahead, dates are easy to get wrong. A Monday 10:00 AM IST release is still Sunday at 8:30 PM in California in winter. When India sends something "by Friday", the California team receives it on Thursday evening, and a Friday afternoon Pacific request will not be seen in India until Saturday morning.
Nonstop flights between Bengaluru and San Francisco take around 17 hours, and because of the time difference you land only about 3½ hours later by the clock in winter (4½ in summer), usually on the same date you left. The days between dates calculator helps when you count working days across a date line like this.
