Image to Excel Converter

Photograph a printed table, screenshot a report or upload a scanned statement, and get the rows and columns back as a spreadsheet. Numbers arrive as real numbers, so totals, sorting and charts work straight away instead of after an afternoon of retyping.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload your table images

Add up to 20 JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF or BMP pictures or scanned PDFs, each up to 95 MB. Crop out anything that is not part of the table if you can.

  2. 2

    Choose XLSX, CSV or HTML

Convert to starts on XLSX. Set the Table language, and under Advanced settings adjust Table style and Decimal separator if the table needs it.

  3. 3

    Convert and check

Press Recognize text and open the result in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Spot-check a few totals against the picture before you rely on it.

This tool reads tables, not paragraphs. It finds the grid in your picture, recognizes the text in each cell and writes it to the matching cell of a spreadsheet, with header rows, merged cells and number formats carried over.

How a photo of a table becomes a spreadsheet

Ordinary OCR reads lines of text from left to right, which is exactly wrong for a table: a row of a price list would come out as one long sentence. Table recognition adds a step before reading. It locates the table's structure, from ruled lines where they exist or from the vertical gaps between columns where they do not, and only then reads each cell on its own.

Table style decides how that structure is found. Auto works for most images. Ruled lines is the better pick for tables with visible borders, such as printed timetables and invoices. Whitespace columns suits bank statements, receipts and older reports where columns are separated only by space. Straighten image, on by default, rotates a tilted photo so rows stay level before any of this happens.

Formats people search for most each have a page preset with the right output: PNG to Excel for screenshots, image to Excel converter online for phone photos and image to CSV for data that goes into other software. For paragraphs of text rather than tables, use image to text.

XLSX, CSV or an HTML table

Default

XLSX

The Excel workbook format, part of the Office Open XML standard.

  • Bold header row, merged cells, numeric cells
  • Several tables on separate sheets
  • Opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice
Best for: Analysis, totals, charts and sharing a sheet
Plain values

CSV

Comma-separated text described in RFC 4180. No formatting, just rows and fields.

  • CSV delimiter: comma, semicolon or tab
  • CSV encoding UTF-8 with BOM by default
  • Accepted by databases and accounting imports
Best for: Importing into other software
Web

HTML table

A ready-made table element to paste into a web page, CMS or email template.

  • Header row becomes table headings
  • Merged cells kept as spans
  • No spreadsheet app needed
Best for: Publishing a table online

Getting numbers right: decimals, dates and IDs

Text in the picture

1.234,56

A European amount, read with the dot as a decimal point by mistake

Correct value

Cell in Excel

1234.56

Decimal separator set to Comma, stored as a real number

Decimal separator tells the converter how the numbers in the picture are written. Auto decides from the table itself. Choose Dot for 1,234.56 as used in the US, UK and India, or Comma for 1.234,56 as used across much of Europe and Latin America. Store numbers as numbers turns amounts, dates and percentages into numeric cells so SUM and charts work; turn it off when a column holds codes such as ZIP codes or invoice numbers whose leading zeros must stay.

Table detection settings before you convert

  • Detect header row is on: the first row becomes bold column titles in Excel and the header line in CSV.
  • Keep merged cells is on: cells spanning several columns stay merged. Turn it off to repeat the value in every cell, which makes sorting and filtering easier.
  • Table language matches the words in the table; numbers are read the same in every language, and 34 languages are available.
  • CSV delimiter is semicolon if the CSV will be opened by Excel set to a comma-decimal locale such as German or French.
  • PDF pages lists only the pages that contain the table, such as 2 or 2-4, when the PDF has cover pages or notes.

Fixing misaligned rows and columns

  • Two columns were merged into one

The gap between them is narrow. Switch Table style to Whitespace columns, or to Ruled lines if the table has borders.

  • Rows are shifted by one cell

The photo was taken at an angle. Keep Straighten image on and retake the picture from directly above the page.

  • Accents show as symbols in the CSV

Keep CSV encoding on UTF-8 with BOM, which tells Excel on Windows how to read the characters when you double-click the file.

  • Totals do not add up

A digit was misread, usually 1 and 7 or 5 and 6 in low-resolution images. Use a sharper image; scans at 300 DPI read most reliably.

Image to Excel questions

Can I convert a picture of a table into Excel for free?

Yes. Upload the picture, keep Convert to on XLSX and press Recognize text. There is no sign-up and no watermark; uploads and results are deleted 30 minutes after processing.

Can I convert several table images at once?

Yes, up to 20 files per run, all read with the same settings. Each image becomes its own spreadsheet, downloaded one by one or as one ZIP, so every table stays easy to check against its source. A single PDF can still hold several pages: use PDF pages to name the pages with the table, such as 2-4.

What happens when the picture contains two tables?

With XLSX output, Several tables puts each table on its own sheet by default. Choose All on one sheet to stack them with a blank row between, which is handy when the tables share the same columns.

Should I pick CSV or XLSX for a bank statement?

Pick XLSX if you will work in Excel or Google Sheets, since it keeps number formats and merged cells. Pick CSV when budgeting software, a database or an accounting import asks for it, because CSV is plain values that almost every program can read.

Will a handwritten table convert to Excel?

Printed and on-screen tables convert best, because table recognition is tuned for typed characters. Neatly written ledgers and forms with clear boxes often work, but expect to correct digits by hand. For handwritten notes rather than tables, the handwriting to text page has a dedicated mode.

My IDs and phone numbers lost their leading zeros. Why?

They were stored as numbers, and numbers cannot start with 0. Turn off Store numbers as numbers to keep every cell as text. Excel also keeps only 15 significant digits, so long account or card numbers must stay text to survive.

Does Excel have its own picture import?

Excel's Data from Picture feature, first added to the Android app in 2019, captures a table with the phone camera. It works one table at a time inside Excel; this converter also takes scanned PDFs, gives CSV or HTML output and lets you control headers, merged cells and decimal format.
