A form says "PDF, maximum 100 KB" and you are not sure what to do with the file you have. Start here: photos and scans convert on this page, and the route for an existing PDF or a Word document is spelled out below.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Add the photos or scans

Upload the images that make up the document, in page order. If your file is already a PDF, use the compress route described on this page instead.

  2. 2

    Check the 95 KB setting

Max size starts at 95 KB rather than 100, which keeps the file under the limit however the portal counts a kilobyte. Raise it to 100 if you need every byte.

  3. 3

    Convert and upload

Press Convert to PDF. The download is a standard PDF that passes an upload check for the .pdf type.

Have photos or scans? Convert them here. Already have a PDF? Compress it instead. Either way the finished file is below 100 KB.

What a PDF 100 KB converter does with your file

"PDF 100 KB converter" is what people type after a form rejects an upload with two conditions at once: the type must be PDF and the size at most 100 KB. That covers two jobs. Holding images, you need a PDF built around them at an accepted size. Holding a PDF that is too heavy, you need its embedded images recompressed, which involves no conversion at all.

This page handles the first job. Each image becomes a page, and with Target size on, the JPEG quality and resolution are lowered together until the whole document fits. A portal cannot tell the difference between a PDF made this way and one exported from a scanner app, because both are ordinary PDF files with a picture on each page. If your images are a single camera photo, JPG to PDF 100 KB gives it a full A4 page; for a mix of HEIC, PNG and scans with two card sides per sheet, use image to PDF 100 KB.

Three starting points, three routes to 100 KB

This page

Photos or scans

JPG, PNG, HEIC or TIFF images of the document.

  • Pages built at the size cap
  • Several images join into one file
Best for: Certificates photographed with a phone.
Compress

A PDF that is too big

A scanner-app PDF of 1–3 MB, or a downloaded statement.

  • Text and fonts stay untouched
  • Only the embedded images shrink
Best for: Files that are already PDF.
Export first

A Word or Google Docs file

Save as PDF from the editor, then check the size.

  • Text-only pages are usually tiny
  • Compress only if pictures push it over
Best for: Typed letters and declarations.

When the converter cannot reach 100 KB

  • Eight pages blur at 100 KB

The budget is spread too thin. Upload only the pages the field asks for, or check whether the notice allows 150 or 200 KB.

  • The portal still says the file is too large

It likely counts 100 KB as 100,000 bytes. Keep Max size at 95 or lower and upload the new file, not the old one with the same name.

  • Small print is unreadable

The photo included too much background. Crop to the paper and convert again.

  • You uploaded a PDF and it was refused

This page takes images. A PDF goes to the compress page, which keeps its text layer.

Portable Document Format

PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

Searchers looking for a PDF 100 KB converter usually hold photos or scans of a document and need them as one PDF a portal will accept; PDF is the required type and 100 KB the ceiling, so both happen in one step.

PDF 100 KB converter FAQ

What is a PDF 100 KB converter, exactly?

It is any tool that produces a PDF no larger than 100 KB, either by building it from images at a controlled quality or by recompressing a PDF you already have. This page does the first; compress PDF to 100 KB does the second, with the same cap.

Why is the size preset to 95 KB instead of 100 KB?

Some upload checks treat 100 KB as 100,000 bytes, while Windows and many phones display sizes in units of 1,024 bytes. A file shown as 99 KB can therefore be refused. Five kilobytes of headroom avoids that without a visible drop in quality.

How do I get a Word document under 100 KB as a PDF?

Export it from Word first: File, Save As, PDF, and on Windows choose Minimum size (publishing online). A text-only page exported this way is usually far below 100 KB already. If it is not, the images inside are the cause, and compressing the exported PDF to 100 KB fixes it.

Can I convert a PDF to 100 KB on a phone?

Yes. Both routes work in a mobile browser: pick photos from the gallery here, or the PDF from Files or Downloads on the compress page. The result lands in Downloads, where the form's upload button looks.

Does a 100 KB PDF lose its text layer?

A PDF built from photos has no text layer to begin with; every page is a picture. A PDF exported from Word keeps its selectable text when it is compressed, because the size reduction targets the images, not the fonts.
