JPG to PDF Under 100 KB

This page turns a JPG, usually a phone photo of a certificate or ID, into a PDF that weighs 100 KB or less. The size cap is already filled in, so you upload, convert and attach.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the JPG photo

Add the .jpg or .jpeg photo of your document. Two sides of one certificate can go in together; both pages share the 100 KB.

  2. 2

Leave the 100 KB cap in place

PDF file size is Target size with Max size 100 KB on an A4 page. Type 95 if the form rejected a file that looked exactly 100 KB.

  3. 3

    Convert and check the number

Press Convert to PDF, download, and check the size in your file manager before returning to the form.

Answer

How do I convert a JPG to a PDF under 100 KB?

Upload the JPG here and press Convert to PDF. The maximum is preset to 100 KB, so the photo is recompressed and scaled down until the whole PDF is at or below that size.

Convert JPG to PDF 100 KB: where the limit comes from

The 100 KB rule usually sits next to a certificate field: caste, income or domicile certificates, mark sheets, passbook pages. Indian state recruitment boards, scholarship sites and university admission forms often print "PDF only, max 100 KB" because they store several documents per applicant. National systems tend to be looser; the National Scholarship Portal has allowed 200 KB per document, and NTA's JEE Main form has listed 50 KB to 300 KB for category certificates. Check the notice for your form, since figures change between cycles.

The source is typically a phone JPG. A 12-megapixel photo is 4032 × 3024 px and often 2–4 MB, so it must lose more than 95% of its weight. Most of that is easy: an A4 page at 150 DPI needs about 1240 × 1754 px, under a fifth of what the camera recorded. JPEG quality does the rest. For HEIC or PNG files, or two card sides on one sheet, use image to PDF 100 KB instead.

JPEG quality inside a 100 KB PDF

  1. 30

Blocky edges around letters; a fallback for a two-page file only.

  2. 50

A single A4 page at about 150 DPI often fits 100 KB here.

  3. 70

This page's starting point; clean text, faint halos on stamps.

  4. 85

Tool default; usually too heavy for 100 KB at full A4 resolution.

A PDF made from a photo is one JPEG stream plus a few kilobytes of page structure, so the PDF weighs about what the image inside weighs. Two dials set that: the pixel count and the JPEG quality. With Target size on, the converter starts at Image quality 70 and steps down, then removes pixels only when quality alone is not enough. Small type survives lower quality better than it survives fewer pixels.

The tool cannot tell paper from background, so a desk, a thumb and a shadow around the certificate all spend part of the 100 KB. Cropping to the paper edge with crop image first leaves the most bytes for the text.

Prepare the JPG before converting

  • Photograph the paper flat, in daylight, with no flash glare on laminated cards.
  • Fill the frame with the document.
  • Keep Auto orient on so a sideways photo comes out upright.
  • Upload only the pages the field asks for; extra pages split the same budget.
  • Portals counting 1 KB as 1,000 bytes need about 97 KB as Windows shows it; type 95 if one refuses the file.
  • Holding a heavy PDF instead of a JPG? Use compress PDF to 100 KB.

What happens to the JPG inside the PDF

JPG

JPEG image

JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

Portable Document Format

PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

Under a 100 KB cap, a JPG goes into a PDF because the form field accepts only PDF documents, and a phone photo of a certificate is ten to thirty times too heavy to pass as it is.

JPG to PDF in 100 KB: questions

Why does my 300 KB JPG become a PDF bigger than 100 KB?

With PDF file size on Best quality, the photo keeps Image quality 85 and its full pixel count, so the PDF weighs about as much as the JPG. Only Target size makes the tool shrink it.

Can a JPG of a two-sided certificate go into one 100 KB PDF?

Yes. Upload both photos and keep Output on One PDF. Each page then gets roughly half of the 100 KB, so crop both tightly so none of it goes to the tabletop.

Will the officer still be able to read the stamp and signature?

Usually, if the photo was sharp to begin with. At about 150 DPI on A4, a round seal and an ink signature stay clear at moderate quality. Camera shake gets worse after compression, so retake a blurred photo.

Is a JPG renamed to .pdf accepted instead?

No. Renaming changes only the extension; the file still starts with JPEG data, and most portals check those first bytes. Converting wraps the image in a real PDF page.

What should I do when the form allows only 50 KB?

Pick 50 KB in the size row at the bottom of this page; that preset starts with the lower cap. At 50 KB, one page is realistic but two are tight; send one side per field if the form lets you.
