Malaysia Visa Photo Size
Malaysia is one of the few countries that asks for a 35 × 50 mm photo instead of the common 35 × 45 mm, so a picture made for a Schengen or Indian form comes out too short. This page crops yours to the taller frame on a white background, ready to upload to the Malaysian eVISA or to print.

Country & document is set to Malaysia 35 × 50 mm, Background to White and Auto-centre face places your eyes and chin. Drag the crop if your head sits off the guide.

The online visa system is run by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia). It asks for a recent color portrait with a plain white background, both eyes open and the full face visible, and it checks the upload for the 35 × 50 mm shape. Requirements for the file weight have been reported differently over time, so treat the limit printed next to the upload button as the one that counts.
The difference to the usual passport frame is only 60 pixels of height at 300 DPI, but those pixels matter. Stretch a 35 × 45 mm file to fit and your face looks long; pad it with white and the head ends up too small. The preset starts from your original photo and scales the face to the taller frame, which is also how the passport size photo maker treats any other country size.

Malaysia visa photo questions
Why is the Malaysian photo 50 mm tall instead of 45 mm?
It is a long-standing local convention: Malaysian studios and forms settled on 35 × 50 mm, while most of the world uses the ICAO-style 35 × 45 mm. The width is the same, so the extra 5 mm shows more of the shoulders and the space above the head.
Can I upload a 35 × 45 mm photo to the Malaysian eVISA?
It may be rejected or stretched, because the portal expects the 35 × 50 mm proportion. Rebuild the crop from the original picture instead of padding the old one; the general visa photo page explains why trimmed copies fail.
Do I need a photo for the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?
No. The MDAC, which most foreign visitors have had to submit before arrival since January 2024, asks for passport and trip details only. A photo is needed when you apply for an actual visa or a pass, not for the arrival card.
Do Indian and Chinese citizens still need a Malaysia visa photo?
Malaysia began letting Indian and Chinese citizens enter visa-free for up to 30 days in December 2023 and has extended the arrangement since. For a short holiday they need no visa photo; for longer stays, work or study they still apply through the eVISA or a sponsor and need one.
What size is a passport size photo in Malaysia for local forms?
Most photo shops in Malaysia print 35 × 50 mm when you ask for passport size, and job applications, university forms and many private IDs follow that habit. Some Malaysian forms still ask for a blue background, so read the form before you choose White.
Will a photo for my Malaysian passport renewal work here?
Malaysian citizens usually have the passport photo captured at the immigration counter for the chip, so a separate print is rarely needed. This preset is for foreigners applying for a visa or pass and for local forms that ask for a printed 35 × 50 mm photo.
