Thailand Visa Photo Size
Thailand uses two photo sizes, and which one you need depends on where you apply. The Thai e-Visa takes an uploaded passport-style portrait, while the airport visa-on-arrival counter and the immigration office want a 4 × 6 cm print. This page makes either from the same picture.

Quality is lowered until the photo is at or just under this size; tiny files are padded up to the spec's minimum.
300 DPI is the print standard for passport photos; a 35×45 mm photo is then 413×531 px.
Place several copies on a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) photo print or an A4 page, ready for a photo kiosk or home printer.
How many photos on the sheet. A 4×6 in print fits 6 photos of 2×2 in or 6 of 35×45 mm; an A4 sheet fits more.

Thai embassies moved visa applications online through the Thai e-Visa system, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rolled out to its missions worldwide from January 2025. That system also handles the Destination Thailand Visa introduced in 2024. Because the photo is uploaded, what matters is a clear, centered face at a sensible resolution, not the exact print size, and 35 × 45 mm is the frame most embassy checklists describe.
Paper still matters once you land. Visa on arrival, available to a shorter list of nationalities than visa-free entry, uses the TM.88 form with a 4 × 6 cm photo, and anyone extending their stay at a local immigration office fills in a TM.7 with the same size. Neither office crops photos for you, so arrive with prints already cut. The visa photo tool lists other countries that still ask for prints.

Face, background and recency rules
Beyond the size, the rules follow the passport standard: face straight to the lens, eyes open, neutral expression, no hat or sunglasses, even light with no shadow behind the head. Clear prescription glasses are tolerated by most offices if there is no glare, but taking them off removes the question. For the background, white is the safe choice. More on clothing and contrast is in what to wear for a passport photo.
Thailand visa photo questions
Which photo do I need for the Thai e-Visa?
A recent passport-style portrait in color, uploaded as an image in the application. The 35 × 45 mm preset gives the usual proportion on white. Upload limits are shown on the e-Visa form itself; check the current guidance there before exporting.
What size photo does visa on arrival in Thailand require?
One 4 × 6 cm photo taken within the last six months, attached to the TM.88 visa-on-arrival form. Airport photo booths exist but queues are long, so bring a print. Choose Custom size at 40 × 60 mm, or open the Vietnam visa photo size page, which already uses 4 × 6 cm.
Do I need a photo to extend my stay at a Thai immigration office?
Yes. The TM.7 extension form has a box for one 4 × 6 cm photo. Bring a spare, since offices sometimes ask for a second copy for other forms such as re-entry permits.
Does the Thailand Digital Arrival Card need a photo?
No. The TDAC, which replaced the paper TM.6 arrival card in May 2025, asks only for travel and passport details. A photo is needed only when you apply for a visa or an extension.
Is a smile allowed in a Thai visa photo?
Keep a neutral face with the mouth closed. A broad smile changes the face shape that officers compare with your passport, and some embassies return applications with expressive photos.
