Vietnam Visa Photo Size
Vietnam asks for a taller photo than most countries: 4 × 6 cm, face straight on, plain white behind you and no glasses. Upload any well-lit portrait and the page crops it to that frame for the e-visa form or for a print to carry to the border.

Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Quality is lowered until the photo is at or just under this size; tiny files are padded up to the spec's minimum.
300 DPI is the print standard for passport photos; a 35×45 mm photo is then 413×531 px.
Place several copies on a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) photo print or an A4 page, ready for a photo kiosk or home printer.
How many photos on the sheet. A 4×6 in print fits 6 photos of 2×2 in or 6 of 35×45 mm; an A4 sheet fits more.
How to use this tool
- 1
Take a straight-on portrait
Stand about 1.5 m from a plain wall, glasses off, and have someone shoot at eye level. Arm's-length selfies distort the nose.
- 2
Check the 4 × 6 cm frame
The page starts on Vietnam visa — 4×6 cm with a White Background. Auto-centre face places your head; leave clear space above the hair and show the top of the shoulders.

Keep Single photo for the e-visa upload. For visa on arrival, switch Print layout to 4×6 in sheet and order it as a standard photo print.

The 2:3 shape is what sets Vietnam apart. Next to a 35 × 45 mm frame it leaves more room under the chin, so the photo shows the top of the shoulders and a band of white above the hair. Vietnam publishes no millimeter range for head height; the face just has to be centered, sharp and fully visible from hairline to chin.
Since 15 August 2023 the e-visa is open to citizens of every country, valid for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry. The online form asks for two images: the portrait and a scan of the passport data page. The portrait is printed on the visa you carry, so a dark file shows up at the airport too. The upload screen states the current file limits; check it before exporting, and keep the JPG output the page gives you rather than a screenshot of it.
Vietnam visa photo requirements for each application route
Upload one digital portrait in the online form, plus a scan of the passport photo page.
- 4 × 6 cm proportion, white background
- No glasses, no hat, eyes open
- One file per traveler
With an approval letter from a licensed agent, you fill in the NA1 form at the airport and hand over printed photos.
- Bring two 4 × 6 cm prints to be safe
- Print on glossy photo paper
- Cash for the stamping fee
Some consulates still take paper applications on the NA1 form with a glued photo.
- Same 4 × 6 cm, white background
- Write your name on the back if asked
- Check the consulate's own page
Vietnam e-visa photo mistakes that lead to a resubmission
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Face the lens squarely, mouth closed | Wear glasses, even clear ones |
| Light the face from the front so both cheeks match | Crop a 35 × 45 mm photo into 4 × 6 cm |
| Leave white space above the hair | Upload a photo of a printed photo |
| Use a recent photo that matches how you look now | Use a cream or patterned wall as the background |
Background replacement fixes the wall, not the face: shadows, forehead shine or hair across the eyes stay in the result, so reshoot near a window instead. For more countries and their frames, see passport photo requirements by country or the passport photo maker.
Vietnam visa photo FAQ
Is the Vietnam visa photo 4 × 6 cm or 4 × 6 inches?
Centimeters. The required photo is 4 cm wide and 6 cm tall, which is about 1.57 × 2.36 in. A 4 × 6 inch print is the paper size of a normal photo print, and the 4×6 in sheet layout fits several 4 × 6 cm photos on it.
Can I use a 35 × 45 mm photo for a Vietnam visa?
It is the wrong shape. A 35 × 45 mm photo is closer to square, so stretching it to 4 × 6 cm distorts the face and cropping it cuts off the shoulders. Start again from the original shot with the Vietnam preset; for the 35 × 45 mm countries see the visa photo tool.
What happens if the e-visa portal does not accept my photo?
Applications with an unclear or non-compliant portrait are usually returned with a request to submit again, and the processing clock restarts. Re-crop the same picture on white, remove glasses or shadows, and upload the new file instead of editing the old one.
Do I still need a paper photo if my e-visa is approved?
No. An approved e-visa is a PDF you print and show with your passport; the photo is already in it. Paper 4 × 6 cm photos are for the visa-on-arrival route and for applications filed at a Vietnamese embassy.
Does a child on my passport need a separate Vietnam photo?
Yes. Each traveler files their own e-visa, including children, and each file needs its own portrait. Photograph a small child against a white sheet; the baby passport photo page has tips for getting a usable frame.
