How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload your images

Add up to 20 JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or other images, 95 MB each. Any aspect ratio works.

  2. 2

    Choose crop or pad

Width and Height are 1024 px. Fit starts at Crop to fill; switch to Pad with color under Advanced settings to keep the whole picture.

  3. 3

    Resize and download

Press Resize. Every file comes back as a 1024 × 1024 PNG, singly or in one ZIP.

1024 × 1024 px is the square that app stores, image generators and design handoffs keep asking for. Set it once here, decide between cropping and padding, and every file in the batch comes out identical in size.

Where a 1024 × 1024 image is required

The best-known case is Apple's App Store icon. Since Xcode 14, a single 1024 × 1024 px image can serve as the source for every icon size on iPhone and iPad, and the same square is what App Store Connect shows on your product page. It must be square, opaque and without rounded corners; the system applies the mask itself.

Image generation is the second big source of 1024 squares. DALL·E 3 renders 1024 × 1024 by default, and Stable Diffusion XL was trained at a 1024 base resolution, so reference images, inpainting inputs and training sets work best at that size. Designers also keep a 1024 master for avatars and emoji and scale it down: Discord, for example, displays emoji far smaller and caps the upload at 256 KB, so you export the small copy from the big one with resize image to 512x512 or lower.

Crop or pad: getting a non-square image to 1024 × 1024

Default

Crop to fill

Scales the image until the square is covered, then trims the overflow.

  • No borders
  • Edges of wide shots are lost
  • Crop position picks what stays
Best for: Photos, avatars, AI reference images
Keeps everything

Pad with color

Fits the whole image inside the square and fills the gaps with Pad color.

  • Nothing is cut off
  • Adds bars on two sides
  • Use a solid color for store icons
Best for: Logos, product shots, wide artwork
Avoid

Stretch to exact size

Forces both sides to 1024 px regardless of shape.

  • Fills the square
  • Distorts faces and text
  • Only safe for near-square images
Best for: Textures and patterns where distortion does not show

Format, upscaling and file size at 1024 px

A 1024 × 1024 square holds just over one million pixels. As a PNG, a flat logo is small, while a detailed photo can run to a couple of megabytes; switch Output format to JPG or WebP when a form caps the upload, or tick Limit file size and enter a KB target. Fit inside, the remaining choice, keeps proportions without padding, so a non-square picture comes out smaller than 1024 on one side; it is the wrong choice when the destination checks exact dimensions.

Watch the upscaling. A 640 × 480 phone screenshot cropped to a square is only 480 px across, and stretching that to 1024 px doubles every pixel. Never enlarge prevents it, at the cost of a smaller output. For square crops at other ratios, change aspect ratio and the guide on cropping an image to a ratio cover the rest.

1024 × 1024 image questions

Does the App Store accept a 1024 × 1024 icon with transparency?

No. Apple's marketing icon must be 1024 × 1024 px and fully opaque; App Store Connect rejects an icon with an alpha channel. Start from artwork with a solid background, or pad it with a solid color here, and check the result before uploading.

Will a small image look sharp at 1024 × 1024?

Only if it had the detail to begin with. A 300 px logo enlarged to 1024 px goes soft because resizing cannot invent detail. Tick Never enlarge to keep small files at their size, and find a larger source or a vector original instead.

Why 1024 × 1024 for AI image tools?

It is the native square output of DALL·E 3 and the base resolution Stable Diffusion XL was trained at. Giving these tools a 1024 square input avoids an automatic crop or rescale you did not choose.

Which part of my photo is kept when cropping to a square?

The center, by default. Under Advanced settings, Crop position can keep the top, bottom, left, right or Smart (subject), which aims at the busiest area such as a face.

Can I get JPG or WebP instead of PNG?

Yes. Change Output format under Advanced settings to JPG, WebP or AVIF and set Quality. PNG is the default because icon and AI upload forms most often ask for it.
