YouTube Banner Resizer
YouTube shows one banner image on TVs, laptops and phones, and each screen crops it differently. This page resizes your artwork to 2560 × 1440 px, crops it to 16:9 from the center and keeps the JPG under the 6 MB limit, so the upload goes through on the first try.

Quality is lowered until the resized file is at or just under this size.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the banner artwork
Any JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image works. Wide artwork made for another site is fine; it will be cropped to 16:9 around the center.
- 2
Keep the preset size
Width 2560, height 1440, Crop to fill, JPG at quality 90 and Max file size 6 MB are already set. Change Crop position if the important part is not in the middle.
- 3
Resize and upload to YouTube
Press Resize, download, then in YouTube Studio open Customization and replace the banner image. YouTube shows a preview of each device crop before you publish.
Upload at 2560 × 1440 px, keep everything that matters inside the central 1546 × 423 px, and stay under 6 MB.

The banner is a 16:9 image, but only a TV ever shows all of it. On a computer the page displays a thin horizontal band from the middle, and the band gets narrower as the window does. At its smallest, on phones and narrow windows, it shrinks to the central 1546 × 423 px. That box is the safe area, and it is less than a fifth of the canvas: about 0.65 megapixels out of 3.69.
YouTube's current help page states the same rule at minimum size, 2048 × 1152 px with a 1235 × 338 px safe area; 2560 × 1440 is the same layout scaled by 1.25. Working at the larger size gives TVs a sharp picture and leaves room for compression without blur.
Resize YouTube channel art from any image
Cropping is from the center, not around your text
The resizer makes the image 16:9 by trimming the top and bottom (or the sides) evenly. It cannot shift a logo or a line of text into the safe area. Place them in the artwork first, then resize.
Most source images are the wrong shape. A square logo, a 3:2 camera photo or a banner made for another network all have to become 16:9. With Crop to fill, the picture is scaled until it covers 2560 × 1440 and the overflow is cut off; set Crop position to Top or Bottom if the subject sits there. If you need the whole artwork visible with colored borders instead, change Fit to Pad with color, or use change aspect ratio to try ratios first.
A banner from LinkedIn or X is too wide and too short for this; at 16:9 most of the canvas is new space, so design a new background and keep the original strip in the middle. The LinkedIn banner size page goes the other way, if you want one design for both. For the video images themselves, resize image for YouTube thumbnail produces 1280 × 720 px under the 2 MB thumbnail cap.
The output is JPG at quality 90. A typical photographic banner at 2560 × 1440 lands well under 6 MB, and Limit file size only lowers quality if a very detailed image would exceed it.
YouTube banner questions
What size is YouTube channel art in pixels?
YouTube's help page asks for at least 2048 × 1152 px at 16:9 and a file of 6 MB or less. 2560 × 1440 px is the long-standing recommended size, because TVs display the whole image at that resolution.
Why is my YouTube banner cut off on mobile?
Phones show only a central strip of about 1546 × 423 px out of the 2560 × 1440 canvas. Anything outside that strip, including text near the edges, is cropped away. Keep names, faces and logos inside the safe area.
Can I use a 1920 × 1080 image as channel art?
Not directly, since it is below the 2048 px minimum width and YouTube refuses it. This page enlarges it to 2560 × 1440; it may look slightly softer on a TV but is fine on phones and laptops. A higher-resolution original is better if you have one.
Is a PNG better than JPG for a banner?
Only for flat graphics with sharp text, where PNG avoids JPG fringes. A full 2560 × 1440 PNG of a photo can pass 6 MB, so this page outputs JPG at quality 90, which looks clean and stays far under the limit.
How do I center my logo in the safe area?
On a 2560 × 1440 canvas the safe area starts 507 px from the left and about 508 px from the top. Design the artwork with the logo in that box before resizing; the resizer cannot move elements inside the picture.
