TXT to JPG Converter

A text file is only characters, with no fonts, margins or page size. Upload it here and it is set on a page, wrapped into lines and saved as JPG images you can post, attach or print where a .txt file would not be accepted.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the text file

Add .txt files, up to 20 at a time and 95 MB each. Markdown .md and .rtf files are accepted too. Save the text as UTF-8 so accented letters and other scripts come through.

  2. 2

    Check the resolution

Resolution is 150 DPI and Quality 90, which keeps thin letters clean. Images is one per page; switch to one long image for a single scrolling picture of the whole file.

  3. 3

    Convert to JPG

Press Convert to JPG. A long file returns one numbered JPG for each page it fills.

TXT has no layout of its own. Converting it to JPG means the page supplies one: a font, margins and line breaks are applied first, then the page is photographed into pixels.

How a plain text file becomes a picture

Plain text is the oldest format a computer has. It stores characters and line breaks and nothing more: no bold, no font size, no page edges. ASCII, published in 1963, covered English letters and symbols; today almost all text files are UTF-8, the Unicode encoding designed by Ken Thompson and Rob Pike in 1992, which can hold every script from Arabic to Hindi to emoji.

Because the file has no layout, the converter gives it one. The text is placed on a document page with a default typeface and margins, lines longer than the page are wrapped, and each filled page is rendered at the Resolution you choose and saved as a JPG. Short notes produce a single image; a long log or a book chapter produces a numbered series.

Line endings rarely cause trouble. Windows ends lines with CR and LF, macOS and Linux with LF alone, and both are understood. Encoding is the thing to check: a file saved in an old regional code page shows wrong characters, while UTF-8 shows them correctly.

Before you convert TXT to JPG

  • Save the file as UTF-8 if it contains accents, curly quotes or a non-Latin script.
  • Remove trailing blank lines; each one can push text onto an extra, nearly empty page.
  • Break very long lines yourself if their wrap point matters, for example in a poem.
  • Keep Quality at 90 or higher: JPG compression softens thin strokes in text more than in photos.
  • Use Page range to export only the pages you need from a long file.
  • Pick one long image for a single scrolling picture, one per page for print-sized pieces.

TXT

Plain text

A TXT file contains only plain characters with no formatting, fonts, images or layout. Modern text files are usually encoded in UTF-8, which covers every language, though older files may use other encodings and show garbled characters. Plain text is tiny, never becomes obsolete and opens on every device, from phones to servers. It cannot hold bold text, tables or pictures, so structure must be expressed with spacing or simple markup.

JPG

JPEG image

JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

A .txt attachment opens as raw characters in whatever font the reader's device picks, or not at all on some phones; as a JPG the text is set on a page once and looks the same wherever it is posted or sent.

TXT to JPG questions

Which font and page size does a TXT to JPG conversion use?

A plain text file carries no font or page information, so the converter applies a default document layout with a standard typeface and margins, and wraps long lines to the page width. If you need a particular font, size or color, paste the text into Word, format it, and convert the DOCX with Word to JPG instead.

Why do some characters show up as boxes or strange symbols?

The file was probably saved in an older encoding such as Windows-1252 or a regional code page, and the characters are being read as something else. Open it in a text editor, save it as UTF-8 and upload it again. Notepad on Windows has saved new files as UTF-8 by default since Windows 10 version 1903.

Will my indentation and columns stay lined up?

Spaces and tabs are kept, but columns only line up perfectly in a monospaced font where every character is the same width. Tabs can also land at different stops than in your editor. For tables, convert the text into real spreadsheet columns first, or turn indentation into spaces.

How do I share a long log file as a single image?

Set Images to one long image, so all the pages are stacked into one tall JPG. For very long logs a PDF is easier to read and search; TXT to PDF keeps the text selectable.

Can I post a TXT file on Instagram as an image?

Yes, once it is a JPG. Instagram, Facebook and many forms take only pictures, so a short text, poem or announcement converted here can be posted directly. A page is taller than a 4:5 post, so crop the image to the part you want before posting.
