How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the workbook

Add an .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .ods or .csv file, up to 20 per batch and 95 MB each. Set the print area in Excel first if only part of a sheet should appear.

  2. 2

    Keep one image per page

Images is one per page and Resolution 150 DPI, so a Letter page becomes 1275 × 1650 px. Quality is raised to 90 to keep small digits legible.

  3. 3

    Convert to JPG

Press Convert to JPG. A workbook that prints as six pages returns six numbered images, zipped together.

Answer

How do I convert an Excel file to JPG?

Upload the .xlsx file and press Convert to JPG. Every page Excel would print becomes one JPG at 150 DPI, so set the print area and page breaks in Excel first if you want specific cells.

XLSX to JPG follows the printed page, not the screen

A worksheet has no natural edge. Since Excel 2007 a single sheet can hold 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns, so something has to decide what goes into a picture. That something is the page setup: paper size, orientation, margins, scaling, the print area and the page breaks. The converter lays the workbook out the way it would print and turns each page into a JPG.

This is good news, because you control it in Excel with settings you may already know. It also explains the usual surprises. A table that looks tidy on screen can print across four pages because it is two columns too wide, and an empty sheet with stray formatting can add pages nobody expected.

  1. Workbook

Cells, charts and formatting, with each sheet's page setup saved in the file.

  2. Printed pages

Print area, scaling and page breaks cut the sheets into pages, in sheet order.

  3. JPG per page

Each page is drawn at the chosen DPI and saved as a numbered image.

XLSX

Microsoft Excel workbook

XLSX is Microsoft Excel's default workbook format since Office 2007, based on the Office Open XML standard. It stores multiple sheets, formulas, formatting, charts, pivot tables and data validation in a ZIP package of XML. It supports over a million rows per sheet and is the default exchange format for business spreadsheets. Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Numbers open XLSX, though macros and advanced features may not carry over.

JPG

JPEG image

JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

JPG converter

A workbook invites editing and needs a spreadsheet app; a JPG of the printed page shows the finished numbers exactly as laid out and previews inline in email, chat and messaging apps.

Excel to JPG for chats, slides and reports

JPG is the practical choice when the picture is going to people rather than into further editing. It previews inline in WhatsApp, Teams, Slack and email, and at Quality 90 the digits in a 10 pt table stay crisp at a moderate size. For a chart or a table that will be pasted into slides and resized, PNG keeps edges cleaner; XLSX to PNG is set up for that.

Paper size follows the workbook. A file made with US settings usually prints on Letter, one made elsewhere on A4, and the image proportions change with it. At 150 DPI that is 1275 × 1650 px for Letter and 1240 × 1754 px for A4 in portrait.

XLSX to JPG questions

Why does my spreadsheet come out as many small images?

The sheet is split the way Excel would print it, and a wide table spills onto extra pages to the right and below. In Excel, set Page Layout, Scale to Fit, Width to 1 page and save; the converter then sees one page across. Page Break Preview on the View tab shows the splits before you upload.

Can I convert only one sheet of a workbook to JPG?

There is no sheet picker, because pages are counted across the whole workbook. Either save a copy that contains just the sheet you need, or open Print Preview in Excel to find which page numbers belong to that sheet and enter them in Page range.

Do formulas still work in the JPG?

No. The image shows the calculated values as they were when the file was last saved, the same way a printout does. If the recipient needs to check or change the numbers, send the workbook, or a XLSX to PDF file if they only need to read it.

Is the reverse possible, from a picture of a table back to Excel?

Yes, with a different tool. Image to XLSX reads the rows and columns in a photo or screenshot and rebuilds them as cells. Expect to check a few numbers, especially in dense tables.

Why are the gridlines missing from my image?

Excel does not print gridlines unless you ask it to, and the image follows the print settings. Turn on Page Layout, Sheet Options, Gridlines, Print, or give the table real cell borders, and convert again.

Why is the image bigger than the screenshot I usually take?

A screenshot is limited to your screen's pixels; the converter renders the whole page at 150 DPI, about 1275 × 1650 px for Letter paper. Lower Resolution to 72 DPI for a quick preview, or reduce the file afterwards if a form has a size cap.
