LinkedIn Banner Resizer
The background photo on a LinkedIn profile is a very wide strip, 1584 × 396 pixels, four times wider than it is tall. Few photos come in that shape, so this page crops and resizes yours to exactly that size before LinkedIn's own editor gets a chance to cut it somewhere awkward.

What size should a LinkedIn banner be?
1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 strip, under 8 MB, in JPG or PNG. Keep text away from the lower left, where your profile photo sits on top of the banner.
LinkedIn banner size in pixels, and why it is so wide
4 : 1LinkedIn banner ratio, 1584 × 396 px
Most cameras shoot 4:3 or 3:2, and phones in portrait mode shoot 3:4. A 4:1 banner keeps a band only a quarter as tall as it is wide, so cropping a normal photo to it discards most of the picture: from a 4000 × 3000 px shot you keep a 4000 × 1000 strip, which is then scaled to 1584 × 396. Wide landscapes and simple patterns survive this best. Portraits and group photos do not, because heads end up cut at the forehead.
LinkedIn also displays the strip differently by device. On a desktop browser the full width is visible and the round profile photo sits over the lower left. In the mobile app the banner is shorter on screen and part of the sides can fall outside the visible area. Put anything that must be read, such as a tagline, a URL or a logo, in the middle of the banner and slightly to the right.
LinkedIn has changed these numbers before; profile and company pages have each had a few cover sizes over the years. The values on this page are the ones listed in LinkedIn's help center at the time of writing. By comparison, the Twitter header size is a 3:1 strip.

LinkedIn background photo problems and fixes
LinkedIn says the file is too large.
The limit is 8 MB. A 1584 × 396 JPG at quality 90 is usually a few hundred KB, so resizing a full-resolution photo here brings it far below the cap.
Text on the banner looks fuzzy.
JPG blurs sharp lettering. Set Output format to PNG for designed banners with words and flat colors.
Heads or the top of a building are cut off.
Change Crop position to Top so the strip is taken from the upper part of the photo, or start from a wider shot.
The design was made at the wrong ratio.
Use Pad with color under Fit to place the whole image on a 4:1 background, then pick a Pad color that matches its edges. Our guide on cropping an image to a ratio explains the trade-offs.
LinkedIn banner FAQ
What is the LinkedIn banner size in pixels?
1584 × 396 px for a personal profile, a 4:1 ratio. LinkedIn's help center lists that size along with a file limit of 8 MB and JPG, PNG or GIF formats. Company pages use a different cover of 1128 × 191 px.
Why does my LinkedIn background photo look blurry?
Either the original was smaller than 1584 px wide and had to be enlarged, or the file was compressed hard before upload and LinkedIn compressed it again. Start from an image at least 1584 px wide and keep Quality at 90; for banners that are mostly text or flat color, set Output format to PNG.
Which part of the banner does my profile photo cover?
The round profile photo overlaps the lower left of the banner, and on phones the app also shows a narrower slice of the sides. Keep names, slogans and logos in the center and right half of the image, away from the bottom left corner.
Can I use a LinkedIn banner template from Canva?
Yes. Canva's LinkedIn background template is already 1584 × 396 px, so the export needs no resizing. Run it through this page only if you exported at a multiple such as 3168 × 792 and want a smaller file, or if you designed it at a different ratio.
Is the company page banner the same size as a personal one?
No. A company page cover is 1128 × 191 px, closer to 6:1, so a personal banner placed there loses its top and bottom. Type 1128 and 191 into Width and Height on this page to make one from the same artwork.
Does LinkedIn keep a GIF banner animated?
No. The profile background shows a still image, so an animated GIF appears as a single frame. Use a JPG or PNG and pick the frame you like best before uploading.
