One image to Excel converter for every picture format

Most people do not choose the format of their table picture. iPhones save HEIC, Android phones mostly JPG, office scanners often TIFF or PDF, and images saved from websites WebP. Converting the picture to another image format first only adds a step and another round of compression, so the converter reads all of them directly.

The workbook mirrors the page. Several tables on One sheet each puts a timetable and its notes table, or a balance sheet and an income statement photographed together, on separate tabs. All on one sheet stacks them with a blank row between, which suits small tables you want to compare side by side. For a scanned PDF, the tables on the pages listed under PDF pages end up in the same workbook.

This converter or Excel's Data from Picture

Any device

This converter

Works in any browser, with or without Excel installed.

  • JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, BMP and scanned PDF
  • XLSX, CSV or HTML output
  • Several tables split onto sheets
Best for: Scans, PDFs and people without Microsoft 365
Inside Excel

Data from Picture

A Microsoft 365 feature, first on Excel for Android in 2019 and later on iPhone and Windows.

  • Captures one table at a time
  • Lets you review flagged cells before inserting
  • Needs a Microsoft 365 version of Excel
Best for: Quick single tables when Excel is already open
Manual

Retyping

Still the fallback for faded or handwritten tables.

  • No setup
  • Slow for anything beyond a few rows
  • Typos are as likely as misreads
Best for: Five rows or fewer

Whichever route you take, check the result against the picture before you rely on it: sum a column, scan the dates and look for left-aligned numbers. If the table came from a screenshot rather than a camera, PNG to Excel has settings tuned for that case.

Image to Excel converter questions

Can I upload an iPhone photo in HEIC directly?

Yes. HEIC, the default camera format on iPhones since iOS 11, is read as is, so there is no need to convert it to JPG first. The same goes for HEIF photos from recent Android phones.

How do I get two tables from one photo onto separate sheets?

Leave Several tables on One sheet each, the default here. Each table the converter detects becomes a sheet in the same workbook, in reading order. Leave some space between the tables on the page so they are not mistaken for one wide table.

Can I convert ten images into one workbook in a single go?

You can upload all ten in one run, since the converter takes up to 20 files with the same settings, but each picture becomes its own workbook, saved one by one or as one ZIP. To collect them in one workbook, move the sheets together in Excel with Move or Copy. A multi-page scanned PDF is the exception: its table pages go into one workbook in a single conversion.

Which language setting do I need for a table in Spanish or Hindi?

Choose it under Table language, which lists 34 languages including Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese and both Chinese scripts. Numbers are read the same in every language, so the setting matters for the text columns.

Is a phone photo good enough, or do I need a scanner?

A phone photo works if the page fills most of the frame, the light is even and the camera is held flat above it. Straighten image fixes a small tilt but not strong perspective, so avoid shooting from an angle.

What if my image has paragraphs as well as a table?

This converter keeps only the table. For the running text around it, use image to Word, which rebuilds paragraphs instead of cells.
