WebP to PNG Converter

Saved a logo, sticker or product cut-out from a website and got a .webp file? Convert it to PNG and the transparent background comes along, ready for slides, design apps and print layouts that do not read WebP.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Add the .webp images

Drop them on the upload area or paste an image you copied in the browser. Batches of up to 20 files are fine, with 95 MB allowed per file.

  2. 2

    Choose how to treat animations

Static images need no settings. For an animated WebP, Animated input under Advanced settings decides between the first frame and every frame saved as its own PNG.

  3. 3

    Press Convert to PNG

Download each PNG as it finishes, or grab them all together in a ZIP.

Pick PNG over JPG whenever the WebP has a transparent background: PNG keeps every see-through pixel, JPG fills them with a solid color.

Convert WebP to PNG and keep the transparent background

Websites love WebP because one format covers both photos and graphics with alpha, at a fraction of PNG's weight. That is great for page speed and awkward for anyone reusing the image. A brand logo pulled from a company site, a cut-out product shot from an online store or a sticker from a chat app usually arrives as .webp, and the tool you want to put it in may not list WebP among its formats.

PNG is the natural landing spot. It was published as a W3C Recommendation in 1996 and later as ISO/IEC 15948, it supports the same 8-bit alpha channel, and virtually every editor, office suite and printing service reads it. Converting is a straight decode-and-save: the pixel grid, dimensions and transparency come across one to one, with no quality slider involved because PNG has no lossy mode.

Two settings may matter. Strip metadata is on by default and removes embedded comments and camera data, which most web images barely have anyway. Resize output image is off; switch it on if you only need, say, a 512 px wide version for a slide, which also keeps the PNG smaller.

WEBP

WebP image

WebP is an image format released by Google in 2010 to make web pages load faster. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, alpha transparency and animation in a single format. Lossy WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEGs of similar visual quality, and lossless WebP is usually smaller than PNG. Every current browser supports it, but some older desktop software, print services and upload forms still reject it. Windows, macOS and most modern image editors can open WebP files.

PNG

Portable Network Graphics

PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

People turn WebP into PNG when an image with transparency, such as a logo or sticker saved from a website, has to go into an editor, a slide deck or a print layout that accepts PNG but not WebP.

Is WebP to PNG lossless, and why the file grows

Large photos make very large PNGs

A full-screen WebP photograph can turn into a PNG of several megabytes, because PNG never discards detail. If the image has no transparency and is headed for email or a form, WebP to JPG produces a far lighter file. For PNGs that must stay PNG, resize them to the size you will actually display.

WebP to PNG FAQ

Does the transparent background stay transparent in the PNG?

Yes. PNG has a full 8-bit alpha channel, the same kind WebP uses, so every partly see-through pixel, including soft shadows and anti-aliased edges, keeps its exact opacity. Nothing is filled with white unless the WebP itself had a white background.

Will a lossy WebP look sharper after converting to PNG?

No. PNG stores whatever pixels the WebP decodes to, without adding new loss, but it cannot bring back detail the WebP encoder already discarded. What you gain is a file that will not degrade further when you edit and save it again.

Why is my PNG five times bigger than the WebP?

PNG compresses losslessly with the 1990s DEFLATE method, while most WebP images on websites are lossy. For a photograph the jump can easily be 3 to 10 times. For flat graphics such as logos and icons the difference is much smaller, often under double.

How do I convert an animated WebP sticker to PNG?

Set Animated input to Export every frame as a separate file and you get one PNG per frame, useful for editing or sprite sheets. If you want a moving image that opens anywhere, use WebP to GIF instead.

Which apps still need PNG instead of WebP?

Older versions of Microsoft Office, many slide and diagram tools, print-on-demand upload pages and some game and app-store asset pipelines accept PNG and JPG only. PNG is the right pick among those two whenever the image has transparent areas.

Can I go back from PNG to WebP for my website later?

Yes, and for publishing that is usually the better format. Keep the PNG as your editable master and export a web copy with PNG to WebP, lossless or lossy, when the page goes live.
