SVG to PNG Converter

An SVG is a set of drawing instructions with no fixed resolution. Converting it to PNG paints those instructions onto a pixel grid, so the one decision that matters is how many pixels wide the result should be.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the SVG files

Drop logos, icons or illustrations saved as .svg into the uploader, up to 20 per batch and 95 MB each.

  2. 2

    Set the output width

Resize output image is set to a width of 1024 px. Enter a different Size, or switch to Set height or Set longest side; the aspect ratio of the drawing is always kept.

  3. 3

    Convert to PNG

Press Convert to PNG and download each image or the full set as a ZIP. Transparent areas of the SVG stay transparent.

Answer

How do I convert SVG to PNG at a specific size?

Upload the SVG, type the width you need in pixels (1024 px is preset), and press Convert to PNG. The height follows the drawing's proportions and the background stays transparent.

Convert SVG to PNG at the size you need

SVG, a W3C standard since 2001, describes shapes with coordinates: draw a circle here, fill it with this color. That is why an SVG logo stays crisp on a business card and on a billboard. A PNG cannot scale like that. Once it is 512 px wide, enlarging it means inventing pixels, and edges go soft. So the time to decide the size is at conversion, while the vector information is still available.

Many SVG files declare a small width and height in their code, sometimes 24 or 48 px for icons. Rendering at that size gives a thumbnail-sized PNG. This page avoids the trap by setting the output width to 1024 px and scaling the drawing to fit, with the height worked out from the drawing's proportions. Change the number to anything up to 20,000 px; there is no quality loss in going big, because each size is drawn fresh from the vector shapes.

Four checks before you rasterize an SVG

  1. Outline the fonts

Text that relies on a font you have but the converter does not will be substituted. Convert lettering to paths first.

  2. Embed linked images

An SVG can point to a separate photo file by path. If that file is not inside the SVG, the PNG shows an empty space where it should be.

  3. Check the canvas

Extra empty space around the artwork in the SVG's canvas becomes transparent margin in the PNG. Fit the artboard to the artwork before exporting.

  4. Choose the width per use

Export separate PNGs for separate jobs, for example 512 px for a profile picture and 2048 px for a slide, rather than one size for everything.

SVG

Scalable Vector Graphics

SVG is an XML-based vector format standardised by the W3C in 2001. Instead of pixels it describes shapes, paths and text, so it stays sharp at any size and is usually tiny for logos and icons. It supports transparency, CSS styling, scripting and animation, and every browser renders it natively. SVG is unsuitable for photographs, and complex illustrations can become slow to render. Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and browsers can open and edit it.

Portable Network Graphics

PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

SVG to PNG turns resolution-free vector artwork into a fixed-size bitmap for places that refuse SVG, such as social uploads, email and office documents; the reverse direction is an attempt to recover scalability from pixels.

SVG to PNG FAQ

What resolution should I convert my SVG to?

Use the largest size the PNG will be shown at, multiplied by two for high-density phone and laptop screens. A logo displayed 300 px wide on a website should be exported around 600 px; an app icon usually 1024 px; artwork for print needs inches times 300, so 3 inches becomes 900 px.

Does the PNG keep the transparent background of the SVG?

Yes. Areas of the SVG with no fill come out fully transparent, and semi-transparent shapes keep their opacity. If you need a solid background instead, convert to JPG with SVG to JPG and pick the fill color.

Why does the text in my PNG look different from the SVG?

SVG text is drawn with whatever font is installed where it is rendered. If the SVG names a font that is not embedded, a fallback font replaces it. Convert text to outlines before exporting: Type → Create Outlines in Illustrator, Path → Object to Path in Inkscape.

Does setting DPI make my PNG sharper?

No. The DPI tag under Advanced settings only writes a number into the file that printers and some layout programs read to decide physical size. Sharpness comes from pixel dimensions, which you set with the width. Change both if a print shop asks for 300 dpi at a given size.

Why do people convert SVG to PNG at all?

Many places that accept images do not accept SVG: social media profile and post uploads, most email clients, many marketplaces and older versions of Microsoft Office. A PNG of the right size shows up everywhere those do.

Can I turn the PNG back into an SVG later?

Only by tracing, which redraws the shapes from pixels and works best on simple logos. Keep your original SVG; if it is lost, the PNG to SVG guide explains how tracing works and what to expect.
