WebP to GIF Converter
Turn an animated WebP, such as a sticker or a reaction clip saved from the web, into a GIF that plays in email, forums, chat apps and older editors. Frames and timing carry over; colors are fitted to GIF's palette.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.

A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.

Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Drop in the WebP files
Animated and still WebP files both work. Up to 20 at a time, each up to 95 MB.
- 2
Shrink large animations
Convert to is set to GIF. Under Advanced settings, Resize output image with Set width keeps big clips manageable; GIF grows quickly with size.
- 3
Convert and share
Press Convert to GIF and download the GIFs or a ZIP. Uploads and results are deleted after 30 minutes.
Convert WebP to GIF when the animation must play everywhere
Animated WebP is everywhere you do not see it. Sticker packs in WhatsApp, reaction images on GIF search sites and many animated banners are delivered as WebP because it is far smaller than GIF. Chrome 32 began playing animated WebP in early 2014, four years after Google introduced the format, and every current browser displays it. Save one of those files and try to use it elsewhere, though, and it often turns into a still picture or an error.
GIF is older and simpler, which is exactly why it still travels. CompuServe released the format in 1987, and the GIF89a revision of 1989 added the frame delays and transparency that animations rely on. Email clients, forum software, presentation apps and image editors have played GIFs for decades, while their WebP support ranges from complete to absent. When you cannot control where the animation ends up, GIF is the version that keeps moving.

WEBP
WebP image
WebP is an image format released by Google in 2010 to make web pages load faster. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, alpha transparency and animation in a single format. Lossy WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEGs of similar visual quality, and lossless WebP is usually smaller than PNG. Every current browser supports it, but some older desktop software, print services and upload forms still reject it. Windows, macOS and most modern image editors can open WebP files.

Graphics Interchange Format
GIF was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and is still the most widely supported format for short, looping animations. It is lossless but limited to a palette of 256 colours per frame, so photos and gradients show banding and dithering. It supports only on/off (1-bit) transparency, which leaves jagged edges on curved shapes. Animated GIFs are often far larger than the same clip as MP4 or WebP. Every browser, chat app and social platform plays GIFs.

People turn animated WebP into GIF because the clip has to play somewhere that understands only GIF, such as an email, a forum or an older editor; GIF to WebP runs the other way, to shrink animations on a website.
GIF frame and color limits that change the result
What converts cleanly
- Cartoon stickers and flat-color emoji, which rarely need more than 256 colors
- Frame order, per-frame delays and endless looping
- Fully transparent backgrounds on simple shapes
- Short reaction clips of a few seconds
What GIF limits
- Photographic clips with gradients, which band or dither
- Soft shadows and anti-aliased edges, which become hard outlines
- Very fast animations, because GIF counts time in hundredths of a second
- File size, which can grow several times over
Keeping a converted GIF small enough to send
GIF size grows with the number of pixels times the number of frames, so the width you choose matters more than anything else. A sticker at 512 × 512 px shown in a chat at a third of that size wastes most of its bytes; setting Resize output image to a width of 240 or 320 px often cuts the GIF to a quarter of its size without any visible difference at the size people see it.
If the destination accepts video, an MP4 of the same animation is typically a fraction of the GIF's size and keeps every color. Clips longer than about five seconds are almost always better as video; video to GIF works the other way when you need to start from a recording. When a platform has a hard limit for GIFs, such as a chat app's emoji or attachment cap, resize first and test before converting a whole batch.
WebP to GIF converter questions
How do I convert WebP to GIF and keep the animation?
Upload the animated WebP and press Convert to GIF. Every frame is written into the GIF together with its display time, and the loop setting carries over, so the result plays the same sequence at the same pace.
Why is my GIF several times bigger than the WebP?
GIF compresses each frame with LZW, a 1980s method that cannot predict motion or discard invisible detail, while WebP uses modern image coding. A 300 KB animated WebP sticker can easily become a GIF of 1 MB or more. Reducing the width is the most effective fix.
Why does the converted GIF have a light halo around the edges?
GIF transparency is on or off for each pixel, with no partial levels. The soft, semi-transparent edge pixels of a WebP sticker have to become either solid or invisible, and the solid ones keep the color of the background they were blended with.
Why does my GIF play at a different speed than the WebP?
GIF stores frame times in hundredths of a second, so a WebP frame of 15 ms has to round to 10 or 20 ms. Browsers also slow down frames set below 20 ms, usually to 100 ms, so very fast WebP animations look slower as GIFs.
Can a still WebP become a GIF?
Yes, as a single-frame GIF limited to 256 colors. For a still picture that is rarely the best choice: WebP to PNG keeps every color and soft transparency.
