Turkey Visa Photo Size

Most tourists never need a photo for Türkiye: the e-Visa is issued online without one. The photo question comes up for consular visas, student and work stays and residence permits, and there the answer is a 50 × 60 mm biometric photo on white, larger than the European size.

Turkish residence permits are handled by the Presidency of Migration Management through the e-ikamet online system, where you fill in the application, upload a photo and book an appointment at the provincial migration office. The 50 × 60 mm biometric photo is the size used across Turkish identity documents, including citizens' passports and ID cards, so local photo studios know it as standard.

The ratio is 5:6, nearly square, which leaves more room on either side of the head than a 35 × 45 mm photo. Head height is not stated in millimeters in every checklist, so check the current guidance; in practice the face fills most of the frame with a small band of white above the hair. For clothing that keeps the outline clear against white, see what to wear for a passport photo.

Turkey visa photo questions

Do I need a photo for the Turkish e-Visa?

No. The e-Visa on the official portal asks for passport details and payment only, and the visa arrives as a PDF. Check that you apply on the government site; look-alike agency sites charge extra for the same document.

How many photos do I need for a Turkish residence permit?

The online application on the e-ikamet system takes an uploaded photo, and the appointment checklist has commonly asked for printed biometric photos as well, often four. Read the checklist generated for your application and print the number it gives.

What does biometric mean for a Turkish photo?

It means the photo follows the ICAO portrait standard used for machine-readable documents: full face, straight on, neutral expression, even lighting, plain white background, no retouching. In Türkiye the term usually also implies the 50 × 60 mm size.

Can I use a 35 × 45 mm photo for a Turkish visa?

Usually not. Turkish consulates and the migration office expect the 50 × 60 mm biometric size, and a smaller print can be refused at the counter. Re-crop from the original photo rather than enlarging a print made for the Schengen visa photo size, which blurs it.

Is a headscarf allowed in a Turkish biometric photo?

Yes, when worn for religious reasons, provided the face from the chin to the forehead is fully visible and no shadows fall on it.

Does the photo for a Turkish work permit differ?

No. Work permits are applied for by the employer, but the photo you provide follows the same 50 × 60 mm biometric rules. Keep one JPG and one printed sheet for every step; the passport photo maker covers any other country you need along the way.
