Compress Image to 100 KB
A 100 KB cap is common on job boards, visa and admission forms, rental sites and support ticket systems. This compressor brings any photo or scan to at or just under 100 KB while keeping as many pixels and as much detail as that budget allows.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload one or more images
Drag in up to 20 pictures at once, each up to 95 MB: JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, TIFF or BMP.
- 2
Check the 100 KB target
Target size is 100 KB. Type a slightly lower number, for example 95, if the portal is strict, or switch Unit to MB for larger limits.
- 3
Compress and upload
Press Compress. Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP, and upload them to the form.
100 KB sounds tight, but it is a comfortable budget for a single photo: enough for a clear 1200 px image, about fifty times smaller than what a phone camera saves.
Reduce image size to 100 KB in one pass
Type a size into an ordinary photo editor and you get a guess; export, check, try again. Here the target is the setting itself. The compressor runs a quick search over JPG quality to find the highest value that fits under 100 KB, so you are not left with a needlessly small 60 KB file when 98 KB would look better. If even the Lowest quality allowed of 40 is too big, it reduces the dimensions in small steps until the file fits.
Two defaults help without you noticing. Auto orient applies the rotation the camera stored, so the photo is not sideways on the portal. Strip metadata removes GPS position, camera details and embedded thumbnails, which can account for 10–50 KB on their own and should not be shared on a public form anyway. The color profile is kept so skin tones do not shift.
Upload forms are not the only use. A 100 KB image loads quickly on slow mobile connections, stays under attachment limits in support tickets and forums, and keeps a product listing or a blog post light. "File size exceeds 100 KB" on a 100 KB file
The portal counts 1,000 bytes per KB. Set Target size to 95 and compress again.
"Invalid file type"
The form wants JPG or JPEG. Set Output format to JPG; HEIC photos from an iPhone and WebP downloads are often refused.
"Image dimensions are not valid"
The form checks pixels as well as KB. Enter the required width or height under Resize first and compress again.
The photo looks soft or blocky
Crop away background first so the 100 KB budget goes to the subject, or lower Lowest quality allowed slightly so the image keeps more pixels.
100 KB compression questions
How do I reduce a photo to 100 KB without it looking blurry?
Let the tool do both steps: it first lowers JPG quality, which is nearly invisible down to about 70, and only then reduces pixel dimensions. At 100 KB most photos keep around 1200–1600 pixels on the long side, plenty for any form or email. Avoid setting Lowest quality allowed very high, because then it must shrink the image more instead.
Why does Windows show 98 KB while my Mac shows 100 KB for the same file?
They count differently. Windows File Explorer divides by 1,024, so 100,000 bytes appears as about 97.6 KB; macOS Finder has counted in thousands since Mac OS X 10.6 and shows 100 KB. Upload portals may use either, which is why a small safety margin under the limit is worth it.
Is 100 KB enough for a passport or visa photo?
Usually yes in terms of quality, but check the exact rule. The US visa photo for the DS-160, for example, must be 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 pixels and no larger than 240 KB, so 100 KB is well inside it. The US visa photo requirements article lists the rest.
Can I compress a PNG screenshot to 100 KB?
Yes. Keep the format and the tool reduces colors with lossy PNG compression, which suits screenshots with flat areas. If the screenshot is a photo-heavy page, switching Output format to JPG or WebP gets a sharper result at 100 KB. Compress PNG to 100 KB is set up for that case.
Do I need to sign up or install an app?
No. Everything runs in the browser on phone or desktop, without an account, and your images are deleted from the server 30 minutes after compression.
What if the form needs the image inside a PDF of 100 KB?
Compressing the image is only half of it, because the PDF adds its own overhead. Use image to PDF under 100 KB, which sizes the finished PDF rather than the picture.
