Compress Image to 10 MB
Ten megabytes sounds like plenty until a 50-megapixel camera file, a 1200 DPI scan or a stitched panorama refuses to upload. This page squeezes those files to 10 MB or a little under while keeping their full resolution in nearly every case.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the oversized image
Add files of up to 95 MB each: camera JPEGs, TIFF or PNG scans, HEIC photos or panoramas. A batch can hold 20 files.
- 2
Confirm 10 MB
Target size reads 10 and Unit reads MB. For a TIFF or PNG that must go to a form asking for JPG, set Output format to JPG as well.
- 3
Compress and upload
Press Compress and download. The size under each result tells you it is ready for the 10 MB field.
Uploads capped at 10 MB are built for ordinary photos. Files made for printing, archiving or editing are the ones that fail, and they need only a light touch of compression to pass.
Services with a 10 MB image limit
The 10 MB ceiling is everywhere. Government sites use it for online passport photos, Discord uses it for free accounts, and the owner of a Google Form chooses between 1 MB, 10 MB, 100 MB and larger limits for each file upload question, with 10 MB a common choice. Marketplaces and print-on-demand services often apply a similar cap to product and artwork images.
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UK online passport application (HM Passport Office) | Digital photo between 50 KB and 10 MB, at least 600 × 750 px | gov.uk |
| US online passport renewal (Department of State) | JPEG photo between 54 KB and 10 MB | travel.state.gov |
| Discord, accounts without Nitro | 10 MB per file since 2024 | — |
| Google Forms file upload question | 10 MB is one of the per-file limits the form owner can pick | — |
Which images go over 10 MB
Phone photos almost never do; they are typically 2–5 MB. The usual suspects are JPEGs from 45- to 61-megapixel cameras, uncompressed TIFF scans of prints and documents, PNG screenshots or exports at very high resolution, and panoramas stitched from many frames. A 600 DPI scan of an A4 page, for example, is about 4960 × 7016 px, nearly 35 megapixels, and as an uncompressed TIFF it can pass 95 MB.
Getting these under 10 MB is mostly a matter of encoding, not resolution. The tool lowers JPG quality from the camera's near-maximum to a level where the difference is not visible, strips metadata and, for TIFF or PNG input, saves as JPG when you choose it. Only when that is not enough does Allow downscaling step in. Set Minimum width if a service also has a pixel minimum.
Compress image to 10 MB: what people get wrong
MythCompressing a 30 MB photo to 10 MB means losing two thirds of the detail.
FactMost of those bytes describe noise and fine grain the eye cannot see at normal size. The pixel dimensions usually stay exactly the same.
MythSaving a PNG as PNG again makes it smaller.
FactRe-saving gains little. Choose Lossy (smaller) under PNG compression, or JPG output for photos, to cut the size.
MythA passport photo should be as large as possible.
FactThe services check a minimum and a maximum. Any file inside the stated range, such as 50 KB to 10 MB, at the right dimensions is equally acceptable.
10 MB image questions
Which passport photo services take files up to 10 MB?
The UK's online passport service asks for a digital photo of at least 50 KB and no more than 10 MB, and the US online passport renewal has asked for a JPEG between 54 KB and 10 MB. Both also set minimum pixel dimensions, so compressing to 10 MB without downscaling is the safe route.
Why does Discord reject my 12 MB screenshot?
Discord lowered the upload limit for accounts without Nitro to 10 MB in 2024. A PNG screenshot from a large or high-resolution display can pass that easily; compressing it here to 10 MB, or choosing JPG or WebP output for a much smaller file, solves it.
Can I compress a GIF to 10 MB here?
This tool compresses still images. An animated GIF should go through compress GIF for Discord, which keeps the animation, and a screen recording is better sent as a video with compress video to 10 MB.
What about compressing a PDF to 10 MB?
A PDF needs a PDF tool, because its pages, fonts and text have to survive. The compress PDF tool reduces the images inside a document while leaving the rest intact.
Will a 10 MB file lose quality I can see?
On anything up to roughly 40 megapixels, no. 10 MB is about 2 bits per pixel even at that resolution, more than a high-quality JPG needs. Only very large panoramas and 100-megapixel medium-format files are trimmed noticeably.
- Compress Image to 5 MBShrink large camera photos, scans and TIFFs to 5 MB while keeping full print resolution. Fits X's photo limit and leaves room in a 25 MB email.

- Compress GIF for DiscordShrink a GIF until it fits Discord's 10 MB free upload limit, or 50 MB with Nitro Basic, while it keeps looping. Width, frames and colors adjust for you.
- Compress Video to 10 MBCompress a video to 10 MB for Discord's free upload limit or email. Two-pass encoding hits the size; bitrate math shows what 30, 60 or 120 seconds can hold.
- Compress Image to 1 MBShrink phone and camera photos to 1 MB or just under for upload limits. Quality drops before resolution does, and HEIC can come out as JPG in the same step.
