Compress Image to 10 KB
Ten kilobytes is about 10,000 bytes, less than many phone photos spend on metadata alone. This page searches for the best quality that fits under 10 KB and shrinks the pixel dimensions only when quality alone cannot get there.
Compress Image

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Add the image
Drop a JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP or scan. You can queue up to 20 files, each up to 95 MB.
- 2
Check the 10 KB target
Target size is already 10 with the unit set to KB. Enter 9 instead if the portal counts a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes and rejected an earlier attempt.
- 3
Compress and verify
Press Compress, download the result and confirm the byte count in your file manager before you submit it.
How do I get an image down to 10 KB?
Upload it and press Compress. The tool lowers JPEG quality first, then reduces the pixel dimensions step by step until the file is at or just under 10 KB, and removes metadata that would waste the budget.
Photo compressor to 10 KB: what the budget buys
An uncompressed color pixel takes 24 bits, or 3 bytes. A typical JPEG at a usable quality squeezes that by roughly 15 to 20 times, so each pixel ends up costing about 1.2 to 1.6 bits. Divide the budget by that: 10 KB is 81,920 bits, and 81,920 ÷ 1.5 is about 55,000 pixels, which is a picture of roughly 210 × 260 px.
That is why a phone photo cannot be squeezed to 10 KB at its original size. A 20 MB image from a 48-megapixel camera would need a compression ratio of more than 14,000 to 1, far beyond the point where JPEG still shows a face. Downscaling is the main tool here; quality only fine-tunes the last few kilobytes.
Forms that use a 10 KB cap rarely want a large image anyway. In India, IBPS and SBI notices set a 10–20 KB band for the signature at 140 × 60 px, and other portals commonly reuse that band for thumb impressions.
| Size | Pixels | cm | in | DPI | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 140 × 60 | 8,400 px | 1.8 × 0.8 cm | 0.7 × 0.3 in | 200 | Exam signature; fits 10 KB at high quality |
| 200 × 230 | 46,000 px | 2.5 × 2.9 cm | 1.0 × 1.2 in | 200 | Small ID photo; fits with plain background |
| 240 × 240 | 57,600 px | 3.0 × 3.0 cm | 1.2 × 1.2 in | 200 | Thumb impression; close to the limit |
| 413 × 531 | 219,300 px | 3.5 × 4.5 cm | 1.4 × 1.8 in | 300 | Passport-style crop; usually downscaled to fit |
10 KB to 20 KB signature size in pixels
When a portal gives both a pixel size and a KB range, meet the pixel size first. Open Advanced settings, choose Resize first › Set width, enter 140, and the height follows the crop you made. A signature that small almost never reaches the 10 KB ceiling. The risk is the other way: some validators refuse anything under 10 KB.
A 280 × 120 px version keeps the 7 by 3 shape, has four times the pixels and still sits under 20 KB on white paper. More on this in the guide to reducing image size in KB.
Keeping a 10 KB image legible
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Crop to the face or the signature before compressing | Upload a full-frame phone photo and expect full resolution |
| Photograph against a plain light wall | Sign with a thin gel pen that fades when downscaled |
| Set Minimum width so text never shrinks below a readable size | Keep a PNG photo, which wastes the budget on lossless data |
Compress image to 10 KB: answers
What pixel size does a photo compressor to 10 KB usually end up at?
For a face photo, roughly 200 × 250 px to 280 × 350 px, depending on how busy the background is.
Can I keep my 12-megapixel photo at full resolution and still hit 10 KB?
No. A 4032 × 3024 px photo has about 12 million pixels, and even at the lowest usable JPEG quality it needs hundreds of kilobytes. The tool reduces the dimensions until the file fits.
Is a 10 KB signature readable on the printed admit card?
Yes, if the ink is dark and the crop is tight. A signature of 140 × 60 px holds only 8,400 pixels, so it usually lands well under 10 KB at a high quality,.
Why did the result come out at 6 KB instead of 10 KB?
The target is a ceiling, not a fill level. A small, plain image can already be under 10 KB at the highest quality the tool tries, so it stops there. If the form also has a minimum, use increase image size in KB to add bytes back.
Which output format gives the clearest image at 10 KB?
For photos, JPG or WebP, because both are built for continuous tones. Pick JPG when a form names the format.
Does stripping metadata matter at 10 KB?
A lot. Camera EXIF blocks and embedded thumbnails can weigh more than the whole 10 KB budget. Strip metadata is on by default, so every remaining byte goes to the picture itself.
