Compress Signature to 20 KB
Exam and bank portals want the signature as a small JPG, usually 10 to 20 KB. This page turns a photo or scan of your signature into exactly that: a JPG at or under 20 KB, with sharp ink edges and never narrower than 140 px.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the signature image
A phone photo or a scan of your signature on white paper, cropped close to the ink. JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP all work.
- 2
Keep the signature settings
The target is 20 KB, output is JPG, Chroma subsampling is 4:4:4 for clean edges and Minimum width is 140 px. Change the width under Advanced settings if your notice gives other pixels.
- 3
Compress and check the size
Press Compress to JPG. Confirm the file is between the portal's minimum and 20 KB before uploading.
Photograph the signature on white paper, crop tight to the ink, and compress here. The result is a JPG of 20 KB or less, at least 140 px wide, which meets the common 10–20 KB signature rule as long as the image is not too small.
Signature size rules on Indian exam and bank portals
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| IBPS (PO, Clerk, SO, RRB) | 140 × 60 px at 200 DPI preferred, 10–20 KB, JPG, black ink on white | ibps.in |
| SBI (PO and Clerk) | 140 × 60 px preferred, 10–20 KB, JPG | sbi.co.in |
| SSC (one-time registration) | 10–20 KB, JPG | ssc.gov.in |
| UPSC (online application) | 20–300 KB, JPG; a different range | upsc.gov.in |
These rules are enforced by the upload script, which checks the extension and the byte count before anyone sees the image. A clear signature of 21 KB is rejected; so is one of 9 KB where the floor is 10 KB. The pixel size, by contrast, is usually stated as preferred and is not always checked.
That matters because a real 140 × 60 px signature with black ink on a clean white background compresses to only a few kilobytes even at maximum quality. The 20 KB ceiling is easy; the 10 KB floor is the hard part. If your result falls short, keep the same image and raise it with increase image size in KB rather than adding noise or a gray background to bulk it up.

Crop, then compress the signature to 20 KB
Crop so that only a thin margin of white surrounds the ink, about the proportion of 140 × 60 px, which is 7:3. A signature floating in a large white area becomes unreadable once it is shrunk to the required width. The crop image tool lets you drag a box around it or type the exact ratio.
This page keeps Chroma subsampling at 4:4:4, which stores color at full resolution and stops the colored fringes JPG can add around thin dark strokes. It also sets Minimum width to 140 px, so the tool lowers quality instead of shrinking the signature below the size bank forms prefer. The photo for the same form usually has a larger budget; run it through Compress image to 50 KB separately.

Signature upload questions
What size should a signature be for IBPS and SBI forms?
Recent IBPS and SBI notices ask for 140 × 60 px, preferred at 200 DPI, and a file of 10–20 KB in JPG. The signature must be in black ink on white paper, and a signature in capital letters is not accepted. Check the notice for your exam, since details can change between cycles.
My signature came out at 6 KB. Will the portal accept it?
Not if it sets a 10 KB minimum, as SSC and IBPS do. A 140 × 60 px signature on plain white is naturally tiny. Raise the size with increase image size in KB, or upload a larger crop such as 280 × 120 px if the notice treats the pixel size as a preference.
Should I sign with a pen or on a touchscreen?
Use a black ballpoint or gel pen on white paper unless the notice says otherwise. Bank and exam forms expect a handwritten signature that matches the one you will sign at the exam hall, and a finger-drawn signature rarely looks the same.
Why does the signature have a gray background after scanning?
Phone cameras expose for the whole scene, so white paper often comes out light gray with shadows. Scan in a document mode that whitens the page, or photograph in daylight with the phone parallel to the paper. Gray noise also wastes bytes JPG could spend on the ink.
Can the UPSC signature be compressed here too?
Yes, but its rules differ. UPSC's online application asks for a signature file of 20 KB to 300 KB in recent notices, so a 20 KB target is the floor there, not the ceiling. Set Target size to 50 or 100 KB for UPSC.
- Compress Image to 20 KBCompress a photo or signature to 20 KB or less as a JPG for SSC, IBPS and other exam portals. Exact target size, dimensions kept where possible.
- Compress JPEG to 20 KBGet a JPEG at or just under 20 KB: quality is searched first, pixels shrink only if needed, and phone metadata is stripped so the budget goes to the image.
- Compress Image to 10 KBShrink a photo, signature or scan to 10 KB or just under. See which pixel sizes fit 10 KB, why a 20 MB photo has to get smaller, and how to stay legible.
- Compress Image to 5 KBShrink a photo, logo or signature to 5 KB or just under. Metadata and the color profile are dropped to save bytes, and the image is downscaled only if needed.
- Increase Image Size in KBIncrease a photo's file size in KB to pass a form's minimum, such as 20 KB, without changing how it looks or its pixel dimensions. JPG, PNG and PDF.
- Compress Image to 15 KBResize an image to 15 KB, the safe middle of a 10–20 KB upload band. Pixel sizes that fit, why the middle beats the edge, and how to fix a rejected file.
