PNG to MP4 Converter

Presentation slides, logos and screenshots are usually PNG, and they need a little care to look right as video. Turn them into an MP4 at their original size, with transparent areas filled in a color you choose.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the PNG files

Add one PNG or up to 20 in a batch, such as slides exported from PowerPoint or Keynote. Include an audio file if the video needs narration or music.

  2. 2

    Check size and background

Video size is set to Same as the image and Image fit to Contain. Under Advanced settings, Background color is white; change it to match a logo or a dark slide theme.

  3. 3

    Convert to MP4

Press Convert to MP4. Each slide holds for 5 seconds with a straight cut, and the files are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.

Why convert PNG to MP4

PNG became a W3C Recommendation in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. It is lossless and supports full transparency, which makes it the format of choice for screenshots, interface mockups, logos and slides exported from PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides.

Those same images often need to move. A slide deck becomes a narrated lesson for an LMS or YouTube, a logo becomes the closing card of an ad, a set of app screenshots becomes a store preview. Learning platforms, social apps and digital signage players take MP4, not a folder of PNGs.

Because PNG artwork is usually made at an exact size, this page keeps that size with Video size set to Same as the image. A 1920 × 1080 slide becomes a 1920 × 1080 video with no scaling. For phone photos rather than graphics, JPG to MP4 starts with settings better suited to camera pictures.

PNG

Portable Network Graphics

PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

MPEG-4 video

MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is a multimedia container standardised by ISO/MPEG and based on Apple's QuickTime format. It usually holds H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio, and can also carry subtitles, chapters and metadata. It is the most compatible video format in the world, playing on phones, browsers, TVs, game consoles and social platforms. The video inside is almost always lossy, so repeated re-encoding gradually reduces quality.

PNG to MP4 serves slides, screenshots and logo artwork that must play as video: transparency is flattened onto a color, and the lossless pixels become frames a video player can show.

PNG transparency in an MP4 video

A PNG pixel carries a fourth value, alpha, that says how see-through it is. H.264 video stores only brightness and color, so a soft drop shadow or anti-aliased edge has to be mixed with something solid. The background color is that something: pick the color of the slide, the brand or the scene the video will sit in, and the edges blend correctly.

If your slides come in different sizes, choose a fixed Video size such as 1920 × 1080 with Image fit on Contain, so smaller images sit centered on the background rather than changing the frame mid-video. Our comparison of JPG, JPEG and PNG explains when each still format makes sense before you get here.

PNG to MP4 questions

Does an MP4 keep PNG transparency?

No. The H.264 video in an MP4 has no alpha channel, so every pixel has to be a solid color. Transparent and semi-transparent areas are blended onto the Background color you set, white by default on this page.

How do I make a video from PowerPoint slides saved as PNG?

In PowerPoint use File, Export, and choose PNG for all slides; Keynote offers the same under Export To, Images. Upload the numbered PNGs, set Seconds per image to the time you want per slide, and add a voice-over recording if you have one.

Why was my odd-sized screenshot changed by one pixel?

Standard H.264 video stores color at half resolution in both directions, so width and height must be even numbers. A screenshot measuring 1081 × 721 pixels has to be adjusted by a pixel in each direction, which is invisible in practice.

Why does small colored text look fuzzy in the video?

Video compression keeps brightness at full resolution but color at a quarter of it, which blurs thin red or blue lines more than black text on white. Use larger type for colored text, or slides with dark text on a light background.

Is MP4 or GIF better for an animated logo made of PNG frames?

MP4 is far smaller and has no 256-color limit, so gradients stay smooth. GIF still wins where video does not autoplay, such as email signatures; for that, PNG to GIF builds the animation instead.
