MP3 to MP4 Converter
Video platforms do not take audio files, so a song, podcast episode or voice recording needs a picture before it can be posted. Add a cover image or an animated waveform to your MP3 and download an MP4 sized for the platform.

Contain shows the whole image with bars, cover fills the frame and crops the edges, blur fills the bars with a blurred copy of the image.
Fills the frame behind a waveform, around a contained image, or the whole video when plain color is chosen.
How the sound is drawn. Bars and spectrum react clearly to music; line suits speech and podcasts.
Color of the waveform drawing, e.g. #FFFFFF on a dark background.
Used when you upload images without audio, or several images with one track: how long each picture stays on screen.
Effect between images when you upload more than one.
192 kbps keeps music clean; uploading platforms re-encode anyway, so higher rarely helps.

How to use this tool
- 1
Add the MP3 and a picture
Drop the MP3 together with a JPG or PNG cover. No image? Switch Show to Waveform or Plain color and the video draws its own picture.
- 2
Choose the video size
Video size starts at 1920 × 1080 for YouTube. Pick 1080 × 1920 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, or 1080 × 1080 and 1080 × 1350 for feed posts.
- 3
Convert to MP4
Press Convert to MP4 and download the video. The audio track runs to the end of the MP3, and the files are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.
An MP4 made from an MP3 is the same sound with a picture track added. You choose what the picture is and how big the frame is; everything else is automatic.
Why you need to convert MP3 to video before posting
The MP3 format, standardized by MPEG in 1993, is still the most common way to share music and spoken audio. The trouble starts when that audio has to go somewhere visual. YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook all require a video file and reject an MP3 at the upload step.
Converting fixes that by building a video track around your sound. The MP3's length decides the video's length, the frame size decides where it fits, and the picture can come from three places: a cover image you upload, a waveform drawn from the audio itself, or a plain background color.
The audio is carried into the MP4 at the bitrate in Audio bitrate. The platforms re-encode every upload anyway, so a higher setting rarely changes what listeners hear on a phone; 192 kbps is the default because it keeps music clean at a modest size.

MP3 audio
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is a lossy audio format developed largely at the Fraunhofer Institute and standardised by MPEG in 1993. It removes sounds the ear is unlikely to notice, shrinking music to about a tenth of CD size at 128–320 kbps. All patents have expired, and every phone, car stereo, browser and media player supports it. Quality loss is audible at low bitrates and accumulates with re-encoding.

MPEG-4 video
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is a multimedia container standardised by ISO/MPEG and based on Apple's QuickTime format. It usually holds H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio, and can also carry subtitles, chapters and metadata. It is the most compatible video format in the world, playing on phones, browsers, TVs, game consoles and social platforms. The video inside is almost always lossy, so repeated re-encoding gradually reduces quality.

MP3 to MP4 is not a format fix but a publishing step: YouTube, Instagram and TikTok accept video only, so the audio gets a picture track and ships as MP4, which every platform takes.
Posting the MP4 on YouTube and Instagram
YouTube treats any vertical or square video of up to three minutes as a Short, so a 9:16 clip from a podcast lands in the Shorts feed while the full 16:9 episode goes to the main channel. Make both from the same MP3 by converting twice with different Video size settings.
Instagram crops feed previews toward 4:5, which is why 1080 × 1350 shows the most of your cover. For Reels and Stories pick the vertical frame and keep text away from the top and bottom edges, where the app places its own buttons.
Have a video and want only its sound? That is the reverse trip, covered by MP4 to MP3. If you start from a WAV recording rather than an MP3, use WAV to MP4 so the upload keeps the uncompressed source until the final encode.
MP3 to MP4 questions
Why can't I upload an MP3 straight to YouTube?
YouTube only accepts video files, so an MP3 is rejected at the upload screen. Wrapping the audio in an MP4 with a still picture is the standard workaround used by musicians and podcasters. The picture can be as simple as album art or a logo on a plain background.
Does the audio lose quality inside the MP4?
The sound is re-encoded once at the bitrate you choose, 192 kbps by default, which is transparent for most music. YouTube recommends AAC audio at 384 kbps for stereo uploads, so choose 320 kbps under Advanced settings if you are uploading a master-quality track.
How big will the MP4 be compared to the MP3?
Only slightly bigger. A still image compresses to almost nothing between frames, so most of the file is the audio itself. An animated waveform changes every frame and adds more, though usually still less than a camera video of the same length.
Can I use several images for one track?
Yes. Upload the images with the MP3 and each one stays on screen for the time set in Seconds per image, with a crossfade between them. Leave Repeat images to fit audio on to cycle them until the track ends.
Which picture size should a podcast clip for Instagram use?
Vertical 1080 × 1920 if it goes to Reels or Stories, and 1080 × 1350 for the feed, where 4:5 takes up the most screen space. Our guide to Instagram post and story sizes lists the rest.
What if I need MOV for an Apple editing app?
Use MP3 to MOV, which keeps the same picture options and writes a QuickTime file that Final Cut Pro and iMovie import directly.
