What "GMT+9" on a Korean website really means
Korean booking sites, airline apps and system settings often label Korea time as "GMT+9". That means nine hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, which is the same as UTC, not nine hours ahead of whatever London's clock currently shows. Korea Standard Time never changes, so UTC+9 is correct all year. The UK does change: on the last Sunday of March it moves to BST (UTC+1), and from then until the last Sunday of October Seoul is only eight hours ahead of London.
So a Korean event listed at "20:00 KST" is 11:00 AM in London in winter and noon in summer, while an event at "11:00 GMT" is always 8:00 PM in Seoul. If a British organizer writes "GMT" in July, check whether they mean London time.
Premier League nights in Seoul
Korean interest in English football exploded during Son Heung-min's ten seasons at Tottenham, and Korean viewers still follow the league closely. A 3:00 PM Saturday kickoff in England is midnight in Seoul in winter and 11:00 PM in summer; an 8:00 PM evening game ends just before 7:00 AM Korean time in winter. Many Korean pubs and late-night restaurants open for the big games.
Business traffic follows a morning-to-evening pattern. London's first two hours, 8:00 to 10:00 AM, line up with 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Seoul in winter and 4:00 to 6:00 PM in summer, the last chance to catch Korean colleagues before they leave. A weekly call at 9:00 AM London time is the usual compromise.
From Seoul to other European cities
Paris, Berlin and the rest of Central Europe are one hour ahead of London, so the gap from Seoul there is 8 hours in winter and 7 in summer. For any city pair on a specific date, use the time zone converter.
