IST to EST
New York is 10½ hours behind India in winter and 9½ hours behind in summer: 8:00 PM in Bengaluru is 9:30 AM in New York from November to March and 10:30 AM from March to November. India never changes its clocks, so the gap moves only when the US does.

The evening shift that powers US business
India's technology and services companies support thousands of American clients, and the time difference sets their working day. Teams in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai commonly run an evening overlap so that 7:00–10:00 PM IST meets the New York morning, 8:30–11:30 AM Eastern in winter. Customer support centers serving the US work overnight, often from about 6:30 PM to 3:30 AM IST.
The arrangement also works as a relay: Indian teams finish work during the US night and hand it over at the start of the American day. Stating every deadline with both zones ("9:00 AM ET / 7:30 PM IST") avoids losing a day.
The two Sundays that change your schedule
Because only the US moves its clocks, Indian teams feel the change on American dates. After the second Sunday of March, a 9:00 AM New York stand-up moves from 7:30 PM to 6:30 PM IST; after the first Sunday of November it goes back to 7:30 PM. Recurring meetings created by the US side shift automatically in Indian calendars, which is correct but often surprises people.
Markets show the same pattern. India's NSE closes at 3:30 PM IST, which is 5:00 AM in New York in winter, and the New York Stock Exchange opens at 8:00 PM IST in winter or 7:00 PM in summer. For the US side's view, see EST to IST.
