IST to CST

US Central Time is 11½ hours behind India in winter and 10½ hours behind in summer: 7:30 PM in Hyderabad is 8:00 AM in Dallas or Chicago from November to March and 9:00 AM from March to November. India keeps the same clock all year; only Texas and Illinois change.

India and the Texas–Illinois corridor

The Dallas–Fort Worth suburbs of Irving, Plano and Frisco, Houston's Sugar Land and Chicago's suburbs are major centers for Indian-American professionals, and many banks, insurers and energy companies in those cities work with delivery teams in India. Here CST means US Central Time, not China Standard Time, which is two and a half hours ahead of India.

The workable overlap is the Indian evening and the Central morning. In winter, 7:30–9:30 PM IST is 8:00–10:00 AM Central; in summer the same Central hours fall at 6:30–8:30 PM IST, a little friendlier for India. Teams that schedule by the Indian clock will see their Central-time meetings move an hour after each US clock change.

Meeting times that work on both sides

There is no shared office hour. The least painful options:

End-of-day handoffs

When the Indian team closes at 6:30 PM IST, it is 7:00 AM in Dallas in winter or 8:00 AM in summer, so a handoff note written at the end of the Indian day is ready as the Central-zone team logs on. Questions sent from Texas after lunch, around 1:00 PM Central, reach India at 12:30 or 11:30 PM and are answered the next morning, which still gives Texas the answer before its own day starts.

For the same calculation from the American side, with call and travel examples, see CST to IST.
