2x2 Photo Maker
A 2x2 photo is a 2 × 2 inch square, the format behind US passports, US visas and most USCIS forms. Upload a picture and this page returns a 4 × 6 in print file holding six 2x2 photos, ready to order at a drugstore kiosk for the price of one snapshot.

Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Quality is lowered until the photo is at or just under this size; tiny files are padded up to the spec's minimum.
300 DPI is the print standard for passport photos; a 35×45 mm photo is then 413×531 px.
Place several copies on a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) photo print or an A4 page, ready for a photo kiosk or home printer.
How many photos on the sheet. A 4×6 in print fits 6 photos of 2×2 in or 6 of 35×45 mm; an A4 sheet fits more.
How to use this tool
- 1
Pick a sharp, straight-on picture
Any phone photo works if the face is front-on and in focus. The head should fill a good part of the frame so the square crop is not upscaled.
- 2
Leave the 2 × 2 sheet settings
The page uses the US 2 × 2 in spec on white with Print layout set to the 4 × 6 in sheet and six Copies. Turn on Cut lines if you trim with scissors.
- 3
Order a standard 4 × 6 print
Press Make, upload the sheet to a photo kiosk or online lab and order a normal 4 × 6 in print with auto-crop off. Cut along the edges to get six photos.
2x2 photo size: 2 × 2 in, which is 51 × 51 mm or 600 × 600 px at 300 DPI, with the head 1 to 1 3/8 in tall. Six of them fit on one 4 × 6 in print with no wasted paper.
2x2 photo size in pixels at every print resolution
| in | Pixels at | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| 72 DPI | 150 DPI | 300 DPI | |
| 2 (photo side) | 144 | 300 | 600 |
| 1 (minimum head) | 72 | 150 | 300 |
| 1 3/8 (maximum head) | 99 | 206 | 413 |
| 1 1/8 (lowest eye line) | 81 | 169 | 338 |
| 6 (sheet length) | 432 | 900 | 1800 |
The 300 DPI column is the one that matters: a 600 × 600 px file prints a sharp 2 × 2 in photo, and 600 px is also the minimum the State Department's online systems take. The 72 DPI column shows why a screenshot of a photo looks fine on a phone yet prints soft, it simply has too few pixels for 2 inches. The 2x2 picture size in pixels page goes deeper on the upload limits.
Inside that square, the US rules put the head between 1 and 1 3/8 in from chin to crown and the eyes roughly 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 in up from the bottom edge. The preset's Head-size guide draws both bands, and Auto-centre face moves the crop until your face sits inside them.

2x2 photo prints from one 4 × 6 sheet
Because the squares touch, the outer edge of each photo is the edge of the paper. Ask for a glossy or luster finish, keep the kiosk's border option off, and cut with a paper trimmer rather than scissors. If you are applying for the green card lottery instead, the DV lottery photo tool makes the single 600 × 600 px file under 240 KB that the entry form wants.
2x2 photo questions
What is a 2x2 photo in cm?
2 inches is 5.08 cm, so a 2x2 photo is 5.08 × 5.08 cm, usually written as 51 × 51 mm. Forms that say 5 × 5 cm mean the same print; the 0.8 mm difference disappears when you cut it.
How do I get 2x2 photo prints at a drugstore kiosk?
Upload the 4 × 6 in sheet from this page and order it as a regular print. Turn off any Fit or auto-crop option at the kiosk, because cropping a few millimeters off the edge shrinks the outer photos.
Who accepts a 2x2 photo besides the US passport office?
US visa applications, USCIS forms such as the I-765 work permit and I-131 travel document, Indian passport and consular services in the United States, and many Philippine government and school forms. Each still sets its own head-size and background rules.
Can I convert any picture into a 2x2 photo?
Yes, if the face looks straight at the camera and the picture is sharp. A group shot or a tilted selfie can be cropped to 2 × 2 in, but the head ends up too small or turned, and the photo is refused.
Is a 2x2 photo the same as a 35 × 45 mm passport photo?
No. The 2x2 is square and about 16 mm wider; 35 × 45 mm is portrait. Trimming one into the other changes the head size, so make each from the original picture, and use the 1x1 picture maker for 1 × 1 in ID photos.
