85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Add images in any format
Mix types freely. Up to 20 files per batch, 95 MB each.
- 2
Set quality or lossless
Quality starts at 80. Tick Lossless for logos, screenshots and pixel art where every pixel must stay exact.
- 3
Press Convert to WebP
Download each WebP or the whole batch as a ZIP and upload them to your site or CMS.
WebP exists for one job: delivering images over the web with fewer bytes. It handles photos, transparency and animation in one format, so a whole media library can move to it whatever the source files were.
Convert any image to WebP for your website
Google announced WebP in 2010, built on the intra-frame coding of the VP8 video codec, and later added a lossless mode, an alpha channel and animation. Safari was the last major browser to add support, in Safari 14 in 2020, and WordPress accepted WebP uploads from version 5.8 in 2021. For a site you control there is no longer a compatibility reason to hold back.
This page treats every source the same way: the image is decoded, oriented upright, converted to sRGB and encoded as WebP. JPG photos usually shrink noticeably. PNG graphics keep their transparency. GIF animations keep their frames. HEIC photos from an iPhone and raw files from a camera become web-ready in the same pass. For a folder of only JPGs, JPG to WebP has settings tuned for photos.

WEBP
WebP image
WebP is an image format released by Google in 2010 to make web pages load faster. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, alpha transparency and animation in a single format. Lossy WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEGs of similar visual quality, and lossless WebP is usually smaller than PNG. Every current browser supports it, but some older desktop software, print services and upload forms still reject it. Windows, macOS and most modern image editors can open WebP files.

People convert all kinds of images to WebP to make a website or online store load faster, normally as one batch before uploading; the opposite trip happens when a WebP saved from a page will not open in a desktop program.
When WebP is the right output, and when it is not
Good fit
- Photos and banners on your own website
- Product images in an online store
- Logos and icons that need transparency
- Short animations that were GIFs
- Images served through a CMS or CDN
Better left as is
- Files you will email or attach to documents
- Uploads to forms that list JPG and PNG only
- Print orders and photo books
- Masters you plan to edit again
- Very large scans over 16,383 px a side, unless resized
Lossy and lossless work differently. Lossy WebP behaves like a modern JPEG: the Quality slider decides how much fine detail goes. Lossless WebP keeps every pixel and ignores the slider, which makes sense for screenshots, interface graphics and flat-color art, where it typically beats PNG on size.
Converting an already compressed JPG to lossy WebP adds a second generation of compression. At 80 the change is not visible on a normal screen, but avoid repeating it: keep the original files and always encode WebP from them, not from an earlier WebP.
Image to WebP FAQ
Which image formats can I turn into WebP here?
Common ones such as JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF and AVIF, phone formats HEIC and HEIF, vector SVG and EPS, design files like PSD, and raw photos from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and others. They can all go into one batch.
What quality setting should I use for WebP photos?
Between 75 and 85 suits almost every photo on a website; Google's own cwebp encoder defaults to 75. Go up to 90 for large hero images where people look closely, and down to 60 for small thumbnails.
Can an animated GIF become an animated WebP?
Yes. WebP supports animation, so every frame and its timing carry over, usually in a smaller file than the GIF. For a single animation with more options, GIF to WebP is the dedicated page.
What is the largest picture WebP can store?
16,383 pixels on each side. Camera files and scans can exceed that, so set Resize output image to Longest side, for example 2560 px, which also suits web pages far better than full sensor resolution.
Does WebP keep EXIF data and color profiles?
The format can hold both. This page strips camera data and GPS by default, which is right for public web images, and keeps the color profile so colors display correctly.
Where will a WebP image cause trouble?
Mostly outside the browser: older desktop editors, some print services and many upload forms still expect JPG or PNG. Keep the originals, and if someone needs a WebP back as a regular photo, WebP to JPG reverses it.
