Compress PDF to 500 KB
Visa applications and government tenders ask for many documents at once, and each one has to stay under a cap. 500 KB per file is a safe working size: it fits common limits and keeps bank statements, passport pages and signed forms legible.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Images above this DPI are downsampled. 150 is sharp on screen and fine for office printing; 72 is screen-only.
JPEG quality for re-compressed images. 70 keeps scanned text readable; below 40 artefacts appear around letters.
When aiming for a target size, image quality never drops below this; resolution is reduced instead.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the application documents
Add up to 20 PDFs together, each up to 95 MB: passport scans, bank statements, sponsor letters or bid documents.
- 2
Check the 500 KB target
Compress by is on Target size with 500 KB. If one field has a lower limit, change the number for that file.
- 3
Compress and upload
Press Compress, then download each file or the whole set as a ZIP and attach them to the application.
Size each document, not the whole application: a passport page needs far less than a twelve-page bank statement, and 500 KB covers both when the scan is right.
500 KB PDFs for visa and immigration portals
Immigration portals limit size per upload, and the limits vary widely. The Indian e-Visa form takes the passport bio page as a PDF of at most 300 KB, while Canada's IRCC online applications accept files of up to 4 MB each. Bringing every supporting document to about 500 KB keeps most applications under their caps and makes a fifteen-document file set small enough to upload over hotel Wi-Fi or a mobile connection without timeouts.
Bank statements grow the fastest. A six-month statement downloaded from online banking is usually a small text PDF; the same pages printed and scanned become a stack of images. Upload the original download whenever the consulate accepts it, and compress only what had to be scanned.
E-tender portals work the same way: each bid document has a size cap printed in the tender notice, and a large technical bid is often uploaded in parts. Split PDF cuts it at section boundaries, and each part can then be brought to 500 KB here.
Scan resolution that fits in 500 KB
| Size | Pixels | cm | in | DPI | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A4 | 620 × 877 | 21 × 29.7 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 75 | Too coarse for small print |
| A4 | 1240 × 1754 | 21 × 29.7 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 150 | Typed letters and statements |
| A4 | 1654 × 2339 | 21 × 29.7 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 200 | Passport pages with small machine-readable text |
| A4 | 2480 × 3508 | 21 × 29.7 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 300 | Archive quality; often too large for 500 KB in color |
| Letter | 1275 × 1650 | 21.6 × 27.9 | 8.5 × 11 | 150 | US bank statements and letters |
From paper to a 500 KB upload
1
Scan
Scan each document at 150–200 DPI; color only for the passport page and photos.
2
Group
Combine pages that belong together, such as all months of a statement, into one PDF.
3
Compress
Run the files through this page at 500 KB; grayscale for statements and letters.
4
Check
Open each result, confirm names, dates and amounts are readable, and rename it as the checklist asks.
The machine-readable zone of a passport, the two lines of characters at the bottom of the bio page, is the detail heavy compression blurs first. Keep that page in color at 200 DPI and let the target spend its budget there; a cover letter or an itinerary can go much smaller.
500 KB PDF questions
How large can a visa document scan be?
It depends on the country and the portal, and the limit is printed next to each upload field. Caps range from a few hundred kilobytes to several megabytes per file. Compressing everything to 500 KB is a practical default that keeps a complete application light.
Can a 20-page bank statement fit in 500 KB?
If it was downloaded from online banking as a text PDF, it is probably already well under 500 KB. If it was printed and scanned, turn on Convert to grayscale; twenty grayscale pages fit, but small figures in tables soften, so check the totals at 100% zoom.
Should I flatten a filled-in visa form before uploading it?
Yes. Flatten form fields turns your typed answers into regular page content, so they appear even in a viewer that does not render form fields, and nobody can change them by accident afterwards.
What is a sensible size for e-tender documents?
Read the tender notice for the per-file cap and any total. Keep each document comfortably under it, since a large upload on the closing day is the one most likely to fail. Splitting a long bid into its natural sections and compressing each part keeps every file within reach.
Can I reduce a PDF to 500 KB on my phone?
Yes. The page works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android: tap the upload area, pick the PDF from Files or Downloads, and press Compress. The result downloads to the same place.
Which target should I use if 500 KB is more than allowed?
Go one step down: compress PDF to 300 KB suits passport pages and single certificates. For a limit that is not on the ladder, type the exact number into Target size.
- Compress PDF to 300 KBBring certificates and mark sheets under 300 KB for state PSC, recruitment and e-Visa uploads. Exact size target, grayscale option, 20 PDFs per batch.
- Compress PDF to 400 KBCompress a PDF to 400 KB and choose where the bytes go: color for stamps and photos, or 200 DPI grayscale for small print. Free, no account needed.
- Compress PDF to 1 MBGet a PDF below 1 MB for HR systems, email gateways and court e-filing. Text stays sharp, hidden data is removed, and up to 20 PDFs go in one batch.
- JPG to PDF Under 400 KBCombine JPG pages into one PDF of 400 KB or less, sharp enough for transcripts, agreements and multi-page certificates. Page order by file name, A4 pages.
- JPG to PDF ConverterFree JPG to PDF converter: combine multiple JPG images into one PDF on Letter or A4 pages, in the order you choose. 50 files per PDF, no watermark.
- Compress Image to 500 KBReduce a photo to 500 KB or just under. The tool lowers quality before it touches pixel size, so most phone photos keep their full width at this target.
