Video to WebP Converter
An animated WebP is a video that travels as an image. It loops silently, fits upload fields that only take pictures, and stays far lighter than a GIF. This page accepts almost any video format and starts at 512 px wide, the edge length WhatsApp uses for stickers.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Lower is better quality and a bigger file. 18 looks identical to the source, 23 is the default, 28 and above shows visible softening.
Frames per second. Keep the source rate unless a platform asks for a specific one; 15–20 fps is plenty for GIFs.
Only used for PowerPoint files and single still images: how long each slide or picture stays on screen.
Auto uses AAC for MP4/MOV and Opus for WebM. Copy keeps the original sound untouched when the new format supports it.
192 kbps is transparent for music; 128 kbps is enough for speech.
Width of the animation in pixels; height follows the aspect ratio. 480 px suits chats, 720 px or more gives a high-quality GIF but a much larger file.
GIF holds at most 256 colors. Fewer colors make a smaller file but cause banding on gradients and skin tones.
Mixes palette colors in a fine pattern to hide banding. Sierra gives the smoothest result; none gives the smallest file.
Whether the animation repeats endlessly or plays one time and stops.
Optional. Seconds (e.g. 75) or minutes:seconds (1:15). Leave empty to start at the beginning.
Optional. Same format as the start time. Leave empty to keep everything up to the end.
The converted file will be at or just under this size.

WEBP
WebP image
WebP is an image format released by Google in 2010 to make web pages load faster. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, alpha transparency and animation in a single format. Lossy WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEGs of similar visual quality, and lossless WebP is usually smaller than PNG. Every current browser supports it, but some older desktop software, print services and upload forms still reject it. Windows, macOS and most modern image editors can open WebP files.

Any video, from an iPhone MOV to a screen-recorded WebM, becomes animated WebP when it has to travel as an image: a WhatsApp sticker, a picture-only upload field or a CMS media slot that refuses video files.
Why convert a video to animated WebP
Plenty of places accept images but not video: sticker packs, profile and banner slots, product galleries in some shop systems, rich-text editors in forums and help desks. GIF used to be the only way to sneak motion into those places, at the cost of 256 colors and heavy files. Google added animation to WebP in 2011, a year after the format launched, with full 24-bit color, an alpha channel and far better compression.
Browser support took years to catch up. Chrome showed animated WebP from version 32 in 2014, Firefox from version 65 in 2019, and Safari from version 14 in 2020, together with iOS 14. Since then the format works in every current browser, so the animation looks the same for nearly every visitor.
Where animated WebP is accepted, and the limits
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp animated stickers | Animated WebP, exactly 512 × 512 px, under 500 KB, no longer than 10 seconds | — |
| WordPress media library | WebP uploads supported since WordPress 5.8 (2021); insert the full-size file, since generated thumbnails may be static | — |
| Current browsers | Chrome 32+, Firefox 65+, Safari 14+ and Edge show animated WebP in an ordinary image tag | — |
From phone video to WebP sticker in three moves
Crop and trim
Make the clip square and a few seconds long in your phone's editor.
Convert at 512 px
Keep Width 512, tick Limit file size and enter 500 KB.
Add to a pack
Import the WebP into a sticker-maker app and send it to WhatsApp.
The converter scales by width and keeps the clip's shape; it does not crop. A 16:9 phone video at 512 px wide comes out 512 × 288, which suits previews and banners but not a square sticker, so crop before uploading. Lowering Frame rate to 10 or 12 fps is the quickest way to save bytes once the width is set, and short loops of two to four seconds keep the file light.
For MP4 sources aimed at a web page rather than a chat app, the MP4 to WebP page starts from settings tuned for site loops. To turn a WebP sticker back into a regular clip you can post or edit, use WebP to MP4.
Video to WebP questions
How do I turn a video into a WhatsApp animated sticker?
Crop the clip to a square in your phone's editor, trim it to a few seconds, then convert it here at 512 px wide with Limit file size set to 500 KB. Add the WebP to a sticker pack with a sticker-maker app, since WhatsApp imports animated stickers through packs.
Does a video to WebP conversion keep my iPhone's HEVC quality?
The picture is decoded from HEVC and re-encoded as WebP frames, so detail depends on Width and Frame rate, not on the source codec. A 512 px animation shows far less detail than a 4K clip, which is expected for a sticker or a preview.
Can I make a still WebP thumbnail from a video?
Set Start at and End at a fraction of a second apart, for example 0:04 and 0:04.1, and the result is a WebP holding a single moment. It is technically an animation with one or two frames, which every WebP viewer displays as a still picture.
Why does my animated WebP show as a still image on some sites?
Some upload pipelines convert every image to a static thumbnail or keep only the first frame. Others, including older Safari versions before 14, never supported WebP at all. If the target strips animation, a video to GIF conversion is the most widely accepted fallback.
Is the WebP smaller than the original video?
Usually smaller than the source file, because it is short, narrow and silent, but larger than a muted MP4 of the same clip. WebP compresses each frame well but lacks a video codec's motion prediction, which is why long WebP animations get heavy.
