PDF to SVG Converter
If a PDF was made by design or office software, its pages are already built from vector shapes. This converter carries those shapes, curves and letters over into SVG, one file per page, so you can scale them to any size, edit them in a vector editor or send them to a cutting machine.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Page numbers or ranges separated by commas, e.g. 1-3, 5.
85 keeps text crisp. Lower it only if the images are too large to upload.
Black & white produces pure black and white pixels, which suits scanned text and keeps files very small.
Each page becomes its own image. A ZIP keeps them together and numbered in page order.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the PDF
Add a PDF exported from Illustrator, InDesign, Word, Excel, AutoCAD or similar. Up to 20 files per batch, 95 MB each.
- 2
Decide how to handle fonts
Text stays as real, editable text by default. Tick Convert text to outlines under Advanced settings if the SVG will be opened on a computer that lacks the PDF's fonts or cut on a machine.
- 3
Convert to SVG
Press Convert to SVG. Every page becomes its own .svg file, collected in a ZIP in page order; set Pages to a range if you need only one drawing.
An SVG from a PDF is only as vector as the PDF was: typed text and drawn shapes stay scalable, while scans and photos come out as pictures wrapped inside the SVG.
How converting a PDF to SVG actually works
PDF and SVG describe graphics in a very similar way. Both store paths made of lines and Bézier curves, fills and strokes, text in named fonts, and embedded raster images where a page contains a photo. Converting one into the other is mostly a translation of those drawing instructions from PDF's page description into SVG's XML elements, which is why vector content arrives at full quality and stays sharp at any zoom.
The catch is that many PDFs are not vector at all. A document scanned on an office copier, a phone photo saved as PDF or a page printed to PDF from an image is just a picture on a page. Converting such a page produces a valid SVG whose only content is an image element, still pixel-based, no more editable than the JPG it came from. The table shows what to expect from the most common kinds of PDF.
SVG has been a W3C standard since 2001 and opens in every modern browser, Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer and Figma. That makes it the usual hand-off format for icons, diagrams and laser or vinyl cutting, and the reason people search for a way to convert a PDF to SVG when the source file was never shared.
| PDF page made from | What the SVG contains | Editable as vector? |
|---|---|---|
| Word, Google Docs or InDesign export | Live text plus vector lines and table borders | Yes |
| Illustrator, Inkscape or Affinity export | Paths, fills and gradients as drawn | Yes |
| Excel or PowerPoint chart | Bars, axes and labels as shapes and text | Yes |
| CAD drawing exported to PDF | Thousands of line segments, sometimes grouped by layer | Yes, can be heavy |
| Office scanner or phone scan app | One embedded raster image | No |
| Mixed brochure page | Vector text and frames around embedded photos | Partly |
Portable Document Format
PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

Scalable Vector Graphics
SVG is an XML-based vector format standardised by the W3C in 2001. Instead of pixels it describes shapes, paths and text, so it stays sharp at any size and is usually tiny for logos and icons. It supports transparency, CSS styling, scripting and animation, and every browser renders it natively. SVG is unsuitable for photographs, and complex illustrations can become slow to render. Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and browsers can open and edit it.

Designers convert PDF to SVG to reuse a logo, chart, floor plan or illustration from a finished document as an editable, scalable graphic on the web, in Figma or on a cutting machine, without asking for the original source file.
PDF to SVG converter myths
MythAny PDF becomes an editable vector drawing.
FactOnly content that was vector in the PDF stays vector. Scanned pages come out as embedded pictures.
MythHigher DPI makes the SVG sharper.
FactVector paths have no resolution, so no DPI setting can make lines or text sharper than the PDF already describes them.
MythOutlined text is still searchable.
FactWith Convert text to outlines the letters are shapes; they look right everywhere but cannot be selected, searched or edited as text.
MythAn SVG is always smaller than the PDF.
FactSVG is plain XML text and repeats styling per element. A page with many small paths, such as a map or CAD plan, is often several times larger than the PDF.
Converting PDF to SVG: FAQ
Is a PDF to SVG converter enough to make a scanned page editable?
No. A scan is a photo of paper, so the SVG will simply contain that photo. To get real vector shapes from a scanned logo or drawing, convert the page to PNG and trace it with PNG to SVG, which redraws the outlines as paths.
How do I check whether my PDF is vector?
Zoom to 800% or more in a PDF viewer. If letters and lines stay perfectly sharp, they are vector and will convert as paths. If they turn into blocks of pixels, that part is an embedded image. Another quick test: if you can select the text with the cursor, it is real text.
Why does the text in my SVG show in the wrong font?
An SVG with live text asks the viewer for the font by name. If the computer opening it does not have that font installed, a fallback font is used and spacing shifts. Convert again with Convert text to outlines ticked, and the letters become shapes that look identical everywhere.
Can I use the SVG with Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio?
Cricut Design Space accepts SVG uploads, and Silhouette Studio imports SVG in its Designer Edition and above. Convert text to outlines first so lettering cuts as shapes, and remember that every filled area, including a white page background, becomes something the machine can cut.
Can I convert a multi-page PDF into one SVG?
No. SVG has no concept of pages, so each page becomes a separate file. If you need them together, place the files side by side in Inkscape or Illustrator, or keep the original PDF, which already holds all pages in one vector file.
How do I turn the SVG back into a PDF?
Use SVG to PDF. Vector content goes back as vectors, so the round trip does not soften text or lines.
