Increase Image Size
Some upload forms reject photos and signatures that are too small, with messages like "file must be at least 20 KB". This tool raises a JPG, PNG or PDF to the minimum you type, without changing how the picture looks unless you ask it to.
Increase Image Size
or drop JPG, JPEG, JFIF … files here ·
Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Auto raises the quality first and then adds invisible padding, so the picture looks the same. Upscale makes the image larger in pixels, which also changes its dimensions.
Upper limit for upscaling: 200% doubles width and height. The tool stops as soon as the minimum size is reached.
Same as input keeps a JPG a JPG and a PDF a PDF. PNG files are naturally larger than JPG for the same picture.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Some exam portals check for 200 or 300 DPI.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the small file
Add up to 20 images or PDFs, each up to 95 MB: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, BMP, TIFF or PDF.
- 2
Type the minimum
Enter the smallest size the form accepts as Minimum size and choose KB or MB. Add a few KB of margin, for example 52 for a 50 KB minimum.
- 3
Increase and upload
Press Increase size, check the new size shown next to each file, and download. Files are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.
A file that is too small is a rarer problem than one that is too big, but it blocks an application just the same. The fix is to add bytes in the least visible way.
How to increase image size in KB
File size depends on three things: how many pixels the image has, how much detail the encoder keeps, and what else is stored in the file. This tool can raise each of them. Raising the quality makes the JPG encoder keep more of the fine texture it would normally discard. Adding padding writes extra data that viewers ignore, so the picture is untouched. Upscaling gives the image more pixels, which raises the size reliably but also changes the width and height.
On Auto (recommended) the tool goes in that order and stops as soon as the file reaches your Minimum size. Most photos of 8–15 KB reach a 20 or 50 KB minimum just from a higher quality. A tiny signature scan on a white background often cannot, because there is little detail to keep, so padding does the rest. The result lands at or just above the number you typed.
The most-used targets have their own pages: increase image size in KB for any custom value and increase image size to 50 KB for the most common portal minimum.
Rejected signature
7 KB
300 × 80 px JPG at low quality, below the form's 10 KB minimum
Accepted
12 KB
Same 300 × 80 px, higher quality plus padding, looks identical
Four ways to add size, and when to choose each
- Auto (recommended)
- Quality first, then padding. Keeps dimensions when Keep dimensions is ticked, which is the default. Right for almost every form.
- Raise quality only
- Re-encodes at a higher quality and adds nothing else. The file may not reach large targets, but it contains no padding at all.
- Add invisible padding
- Leaves the pixels completely alone and adds data viewers skip. Reaches any target, even from a very small file.
- Upscale pixels
- Enlarges width and height up to Max enlargement (200% by default, up to 400%) and stops as soon as the minimum is reached. Use it when the form also wants a larger image.
The output group adds three controls. Output format keeps a JPG a JPG and a PDF a PDF, or switches to JPG, PNG or PDF; PNG is naturally larger than JPG for the same picture, which sometimes solves the problem on its own. DPI tag writes a DPI value into the file without touching the pixels, for exam portals that check for 200 or 300 DPI; 0 keeps the original. Keep metadata is on by default here, the opposite of the compression tools, because removing camera data would make the file smaller again.
Auto orient stays on so a phone photo stored sideways is upright on the form. If the portal also sets a maximum, keep your number close to the middle of the allowed window. And if your file is actually too large rather than too small, the compress image tool works in the opposite direction with the same kind of KB target.
If the form still says the file is too small
"Minimum file size is 20 KB" on a file the tool made 20 KB
The portal counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so 20,000 bytes falls short. Type 21 or 22 and run it again.
The size grew, but the portal now says the dimensions are wrong
Upscale pixels or turning off Keep dimensions changed width and height. Use Auto with Keep dimensions ticked.
The form rejects the file type after conversion
Portals usually want JPG. Set Output format to JPG or Same as input rather than PNG.
The photo itself is too small and blurry for the reviewer
No size tool can fix that. Take or scan the photo again at a normal resolution, then compress or resize it to the form's rules.
Increasing image size: questions
How can I increase image size in KB online without changing the photo?
Keep How to add size on Auto (recommended) and Keep dimensions ticked. The tool first raises the encoding quality and then adds invisible padding inside the file, so width, height and appearance stay exactly as they were.
Why would a form reject a file for being too small?
Portals use a minimum KB as a rough quality check: a 6 KB photo is usually a tiny thumbnail or a heavily compressed scan that would be unreadable when printed. Exam and recruitment sites in India often set windows such as 20–50 KB for photos and 10–20 KB for signatures.
Can I increase image size in MB, for example to 2 MB?
Yes. Switch Unit to MB and type the number. Large jumps from a small picture are better done with Upscale pixels, because padding a 40 KB photo to 2 MB gives a file that is mostly empty space, which some systems flag.
Does making a file bigger improve its quality?
No. Extra bytes from padding or a higher quality setting cannot restore detail that was lost when the photo was shrunk. If the image actually looks poor, start again from the original photo instead of enlarging a small copy.
How do I increase a JPEG's size to exactly 100 KB?
Type 100 as Minimum size with KB; the result will be at or just above 100 KB. Increase image size to 100 KB and increase JPEG size have this set up already.
Can I make a PDF bigger with this tool?
Yes, PDFs are accepted and Output format on Same as input keeps them as PDFs. For page-level options, the increase PDF size tool is built for documents.
What if the form sets both a minimum and a maximum?
Aim for the middle of the window. For a 20–50 KB rule, a 30 KB target leaves room on both sides, so a portal that counts kilobytes differently still accepts the file.
