Increase PDF Size

Some upload forms reject a PDF because it is too small, not too large. This tool raises the file size to the minimum you type, either by adding invisible padding that leaves every page untouched or by re-rendering pages at a higher resolution.

Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the small PDF

Add up to 20 PDFs, each up to 95 MB. Each one is enlarged to the same target.

  2. 2

    Type the minimum size

Enter the number from the form in Target size and choose KB or MB. Under Advanced settings, pick padding or higher image quality and whether to stop at the minimum or match it exactly.

  3. 3

    Increase and upload

Press Increase size, check the new size shown with the result, and upload the file to the portal.

Answer

How do I increase the size of a PDF file?

Upload it, type the minimum the form asks for in Target size, choose KB or MB and press Increase size. By default invisible padding is added, so the pages look exactly the same and the file passes the size check.

Why upload portals set a minimum PDF size

Most upload advice is about making files smaller, so a too small error can be confusing. It comes from forms that check a size range instead of just a maximum. Recruitment portals, entrance-exam applications and some visa and scholarship systems set a floor, often 10 KB, 20 KB or 50 KB and sometimes 100 KB, because files below it are frequently blank pages, cropped thumbnails or uploads that failed halfway.

A modern PDF can legitimately be tiny. A one-page letter exported from Word or Google Docs contains only text and a subset of one or two fonts, which typically adds up to a few dozen kilobytes. Phone scanning apps that save one-bit black and white pages produce similarly small files. The document is fine; it just does not match the form's assumption.

Increasing the size solves the mismatch without redoing the document. Padding adds harmless filler data that PDF readers skip, and Higher image quality re-renders the pages at more DPI, which adds real detail to scanned pages. If the same form also caps the maximum size, check both numbers: the PDF size increaser and the compression tools can be used one after the other to land inside the range.

Two settings decide where the result lands. Size set to At least the target, the default, stops as soon as the file passes your number, so a 100 KB minimum typically produces a file just over 100 KB. As close as possible pads to within 1 KB of the number, useful when a form demands a narrow window such as 100 to 105 KB.

Increase PDF file size: a typical example

Typed one-page letter

38 KB

Rejected: portal minimum is 100 KB

+62 KB of invisible padding

After padding

100 KB

Pages, text and fonts unchanged

Padding or higher image quality

Padding (default)

No visible change

Adds data inside the PDF that viewers do not display. Every page stays byte-for-byte the same content.

  • Works on any PDF, typed or scanned
  • Reaches any target quickly
  • Pair with Size: As close as possible for an exact number
Best for: Typed letters, certificates, exported forms
Higher image quality

Re-render at more DPI

Pages are rendered again at Image resolution, 300 DPI by default, between 150 and 600, which also sharpens scans.

  • Keep selectable text leaves the text layer searchable
  • Raise the DPI if the target is still not reached
  • Adds genuine detail rather than filler
Best for: Scans that the portal also judges for legibility

MythA bigger PDF is a better-quality PDF.

FactSize only says how much data is stored. A crisp typed letter can be 30 KB, and a blurry phone scan can be 5 MB.

MythPadding corrupts the file or triggers security warnings.

FactThe filler sits in a part of the file readers are designed to skip, and the PDF opens normally in Acrobat, browsers and phone viewers.

MythYou have to add a blank page to reach a minimum size.

FactExtra pages change the document and barely add bytes. Padding reaches the target without touching the page count.

Before you upload the enlarged PDF

  • Read the portal's full rule: note both the minimum and any maximum, and whether it says KB or MB.
  • Use Size At least the target when any value above the minimum is fine; use As close as possible when the form names a narrow range.
  • Leave Keep metadata on so title, author and dates stay as they were.
  • Check the size shown with the result before uploading, and keep the original file as well.
  • If the portal limits page size or orientation too, fix those with resize PDF first and enlarge last.

Increase PDF size questions

Why would a portal reject a PDF for being too small?

Minimum sizes are a rough quality check: a very small file can mean a blank page, a thumbnail-sized scan or a failed upload. Exam, recruitment and scholarship portals in particular set ranges such as 50 KB to 300 KB per document, and reject anything outside them automatically.

Does increasing PDF size change what the document looks like?

Not with Padding, the default. The added bytes sit in the file where viewers never draw them, so every page, font and image stays exactly as it was. Higher image quality does re-render pages, which usually makes scans look slightly sharper, never worse.

How do I increase PDF size to exactly 100 KB?

Type 100 in Target size, keep KB, and set Size under Advanced settings to As close as possible; the file is padded to within 1 KB of the number. The ready-made increase PDF size to 100 KB page has these settings already.

What if my PDF is already bigger than the target?

Then it already meets the minimum and nothing needs to be added. If the portal also has a maximum and your file is above it, reduce it with compress PDF instead.

Is it acceptable to pad a PDF to pass a size check?

Padding does not change the content anyone reads, so the document you submit is the one you prepared. If the portal's real concern is image quality, for example a scan that must be legible, Higher image quality is the more honest fix because it actually adds resolution.

Will the text stay selectable with Higher image quality?

Yes, with Keep selectable text on, which is the default. The page images are re-rendered at the chosen DPI, and the original text layer stays on top so it can still be searched and copied.

Can I increase the size of a scanned PDF to improve its quality?

Rendering at a higher DPI smooths edges and can make small print easier to read, but it cannot recover detail the scanner never captured. For a scan that is genuinely too blurry, rescanning at 300 DPI gives a better result than any processing.

Can I increase several PDFs to the same minimum at once?

Yes. Upload up to 20 PDFs, each up to 95 MB, and they are all enlarged to the one Target size you enter. Files that already exceed it are left as they are, and you download each result separately or all of them together as a ZIP.
