HEIC to JPG Converter
Photos taken on an iPhone are saved as HEIC, a format that Windows PCs, many Android apps and most upload forms still stumble over. Convert them to JPG here and they open everywhere, at full resolution.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.

Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Select the HEIC photos
Drag the .heic or .heif files from File Explorer, Finder or your phone's Files app into the upload area. Up to 20 photos per round, 95 MB each.
- 2
Keep quality at 90
This page starts at quality 90, a good match for camera photos. Open Advanced settings if you want to keep the date and camera details: untick Strip metadata.
- 3
Convert to JPG
Press Convert to JPG and save the photos one by one, or download every converted picture together as a ZIP.
Converting HEIC to JPG is a one-step job: upload the iPhone photos, keep quality 90, download. The real question is how to stop the problem coming back, and the answer depends on where the photos are going.
Converting HEIC to JPG for Windows and Android
HEIC files travel badly. AirDrop a picture to a Mac and nothing seems wrong, because macOS has read HEIC since High Sierra. Email the same picture to a coworker on Windows, drop it into a shared Google Drive folder, or plug the phone into a PC and copy the DCIM folder, and the recipient gets a .heic file their photo viewer shows as a blank icon or an error.
Android is better but not consistent. Android 9 added HEIF decoding to the platform, so a recent Pixel or Galaxy can view the photo, yet plenty of messaging apps, photo editors and printing kiosks still accept only JPG and PNG. Web forms are the strictest: many job, school and government portals check the extension and refuse anything other than .jpg, .jpeg or .png.
JPG solves all of these, at a cost in size. A 12 megapixel HEIC from a recent iPhone is typically 1.5 to 3 MB; the JPG at quality 90 usually comes out larger. If a portal also caps the upload size, convert first and then use Compress image to 100 KB on the result.

Batch convert HEIC to JPG from a whole camera roll
Copy the photos off the phone first: AirDrop them to a Mac, use the Files app to save them to a USB drive, or select them on iCloud.com and download. Then drop up to 20 at a time onto the converter. A 12 megapixel photo converts in a few seconds, and when you add several, one ZIP collects the JPGs so you are not clicking twenty download buttons. Orientation is read from the HEIC and applied, so portrait shots do not come out sideways.
HEIC
High Efficiency Image Container
HEIC is the HEIF image container (an MPEG standard from 2015) holding pictures compressed with the HEVC (H.265) codec. Apple made it the default photo format on iPhone and iPad in 2017 because it stores photos at roughly half the size of JPEG with similar quality. It can hold depth data, Live Photo sequences, transparency and 10-bit colour. Support outside the Apple ecosystem is patchy: many Windows PCs, web browsers, websites and online forms cannot open HEIC without extra codecs.

JPEG image
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

HEIC is how an iPhone saves photos, but the files reach Windows PCs, Android phones, office printers and job or school portals that expect JPG; converting is the only change most people need.
HEIC to JPG questions answered
Why are my iPhone photos HEIC instead of JPG?
Since iOS 11 in 2017, iPhones from the iPhone 7 onward save photos in HEIC by default when the camera is set to High Efficiency. Apple chose it because the HEVC compression inside keeps the same detail in roughly half the storage. The phone shows them normally; the problem only appears when the files leave Apple devices.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG and videos as H.264. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those here.
Can Windows 11 open HEIC files without converting?
Only after you install the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store; on many PCs the Photos app also asks for HEVC Video Extensions, a paid add-on. Even then, older programs and web upload forms on the same PC may still reject the file, which is why most people convert to JPG.
Does converting HEIC to JPG keep the photo's date and location?
By default this page removes metadata, which deletes GPS coordinates along with the camera details, a sensible choice before posting photos publicly. To keep the date taken and location, untick Strip metadata under Advanced settings before converting.
What about Live Photos and portrait shots?
A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a short separate MOV clip. Converting the HEIC gives you the still frame as a JPG; the motion part is not included. Portrait-mode photos convert with the background blur already applied.
Should I choose JPG or PNG for HEIC photos?
JPG for photographs: it is several times smaller than PNG and universally accepted. Use HEIC to PNG only when you need lossless output for editing, since PNG of a 12 megapixel photo can be very large.
