EPS to SVG Converter

EPS is the vector format of the print era; SVG is the vector format of the web. Converting moves the paths and fills of a logo or illustration from one to the other, so it stays sharp at any size in places that never learned to read PostScript.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the .eps files

Logos from a brand kit, stock vectors or files from a printer. Up to 20 per batch, 95 MB each.

  2. 2

    Press Convert to SVG

Each EPS is interpreted and its drawing written out as SVG paths. There are no quality settings, because vectors are not compressed.

  3. 3

    Check the result

Open the SVG in a browser and zoom in. Sharp edges at any zoom mean the art came through as vectors.

From PostScript to SVG: why EPS files stopped fitting

Adobe built PostScript in 1984 as a page description language for laser printers, and Encapsulated PostScript followed as a way to place one PostScript drawing inside another document; version 3.0 of its specification dates from 1992. An EPS is a small program that draws the artwork, plus a bounding box that tells the layout program its size and, often, a low-resolution preview.

That design served print shops for decades and is why brand kits and stock vector sites still ship EPS. It suits the web poorly: browsers cannot run PostScript, design tools such as Figma do not import it, and Microsoft disabled EPS in Office in 2017 after security flaws in its PostScript filter. SVG, a W3C standard since 2001, is the vector format all of those read.

EPS

Encapsulated PostScript

EPS is a PostScript-based graphics file from Adobe, long used to exchange vector artwork with printers and publishers. It can contain vectors, text and embedded raster images along with a low-resolution preview. EPS does not support transparency, and modern software has largely replaced it with PDF and SVG. Opening it typically requires Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity Designer or a Ghostscript-based tool, and browsers cannot display it.

SVG

Scalable Vector Graphics

SVG is an XML-based vector format standardised by the W3C in 2001. Instead of pixels it describes shapes, paths and text, so it stays sharp at any size and is usually tiny for logos and icons. It supports transparency, CSS styling, scripting and animation, and every browser renders it natively. SVG is unsuitable for photographs, and complex illustrations can become slow to render. Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and browsers can open and edit it.

SVG converter

People convert EPS to SVG when a logo from a brand kit or stock site has to go on a website, into Figma or onto a cutting machine, all of which read SVG and none of which read PostScript.

Vector, raster and mixed EPS files

Saved from Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Inkscape or Affinity Designer. Converts cleanly: the SVG holds the same shapes and stays sharp at any size.

  • Logos and icons
  • Stock vector illustrations

To check which kind you have, open the EPS in a viewer and zoom far in. A converter cannot turn a raster EPS into true vectors: shapes have to be traced, a different process that guesses outlines from edges. That is what the image to SVG tool does, and it works best on simple, high-contrast logos.

If you only need a bitmap for a slide or a social post, skip the vector step and use EPS to PNG at the pixel width you need.

EPS to SVG FAQ

Will my EPS logo stay editable as vector paths in the SVG?

Yes, if the EPS was drawn as vectors. Paths, fills, strokes and gradients become SVG shapes you can recolor in Inkscape, Illustrator or Figma. Grouping may be simplified, since EPS stores a drawing program rather than a layer tree.

Why does my EPS to SVG result contain a picture instead of shapes?

Because the EPS held a bitmap. Photoshop and many stock sites save raster images as EPS, and conversion cannot invent paths; the SVG simply wraps that bitmap. To redraw it as shapes, trace it with the image to SVG converter.

What happens to CMYK and Pantone colors in the SVG?

SVG describes color in RGB, so CMYK values and spot colors are converted to their nearest RGB equivalents. Keep the original EPS for printing.

Does the text in my EPS stay as text in the SVG?

It depends on how the EPS stores it. Outlined text arrives as paths and looks identical everywhere; text set in a font may become paths or stay as SVG text, which needs that font on the viewing device. Outline text in your editor first when the exact look matters.

Which apps take the SVG that refused the EPS?

Current browsers, Figma, Canva, Cricut Design Space and most web tools. Microsoft Office disabled EPS import in 2017 for security reasons but inserts SVG directly in Microsoft 365.

Can I go back from SVG to EPS for a print shop?

Yes, SVG to EPS does the reverse. Colors stay in RGB, so ask the printer whether they need a CMYK file.
