GIF to JPG Converter
Turn a GIF into an ordinary still image for a form, a print order or a document that will not take GIF. You get the first frame as a JPG, with any transparent areas filled with white or a color you choose.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the GIFs
Add up to 20 animated or still GIFs, 95 MB each.

What happens when you convert a GIF to JPG?
The animation stops at the first frame, transparent pixels are filled with a solid color, and the picture is saved as a JPG at quality 92. Nothing else about the image changes.
Convert GIF to JPG: one frame, one flat layer
A GIF can be three things at once: a stack of frames, a 256-color palette and a mask that marks one color as transparent. A JPG can be none of those. It is one full-color picture with every pixel solid. Converting therefore makes two decisions for you, which frame to keep and what color to put behind the transparent parts, and both can be changed under Advanced settings.
The colors themselves come across exactly as they look. A GIF never had more than 256 colors per frame, and JPG can show all of them, so there is no loss there; the only new artifacts come from JPEG compression. Most people searching for a way to turn a GIF into an image want exactly this: a still they can attach, print or upload.
What each kind of GIF becomes as a JPG
| Your GIF | JPG result | Worth changing |
|---|---|---|
| Animated meme or reaction | First frame as a still | Export every frame to choose a better one |
| Logo or sticker with transparency | Shape on a white square | Custom background color, or use PNG |
| Scanned or photo-style GIF | Same picture, often a smaller file | Nothing |
| Chart, cartoon or pixel art | Same picture, slight ringing near edges | Consider PNG to keep edges clean |

Graphics Interchange Format
GIF was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and is still the most widely supported format for short, looping animations. It is lossless but limited to a palette of 256 colours per frame, so photos and gradients show banding and dithering. It supports only on/off (1-bit) transparency, which leaves jagged edges on curved shapes. Animated GIFs are often far larger than the same clip as MP4 or WebP. Every browser, chat app and social platform plays GIFs.

JPEG image
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

People convert GIF to JPG when a frame from a meme, a reaction or an old web graphic has to go somewhere that accepts photos only, such as a print order, a profile picture field or an office document.
Choosing the fill color for transparent GIF areas
GIF transparency is binary, so cut-out GIFs were usually drawn with edges blended against the background of the site they were made for, often white. If you fill with a different color, that old halo can show. Matching Transparent areas to the original page color hides it; when you do not know it, white is the safest guess.
If the JPG has to meet a size limit, lower the width with Resize output image first and only then reduce quality. For the opposite job, keeping motion, look at GIF to MP4, which keeps every frame in a far smaller file, or GIF to PNG for a still that keeps its transparency.
GIF to JPEG or PNG: which still to save
Choose JPG when
- The destination lists JPG or JPEG only
- The GIF is photographic
- You are ordering prints
- A smaller file matters more than crisp edges
Choose PNG when
- The background must stay transparent
- The GIF is text, a chart or pixel art
- You will edit the still again
- Edges have to stay pixel-sharp
GIF to JPG questions
How do I turn a GIF into a normal image?
Upload it and press Convert to JPG. The result is a standard still picture that phones, editors and upload forms all treat like a photo. If you need transparency kept, use PNG instead of JPG.
Can I save a frame other than the first?
Yes, in two steps. Set Animated input to Export every frame as a separate file, convert, and you get every frame as its own numbered JPG in a ZIP. Keep the one you want and delete the rest.
Why did the transparent background become white?
JPG has no transparency, so every see-through pixel must get a solid color. White is the default because most forms and documents are white. Choose Custom color and enter the hex value of your page background if the image will sit on something else.
Why are there smudges around the text in my JPG?
JPEG compresses in 8 × 8 pixel blocks and handles hard edges between flat colors poorly, leaving faint ripples called ringing. GIF graphics are full of such edges. This page uses quality 92 to keep them faint; for logos and text-heavy graphics, PNG avoids them completely.
Why is the JPG bigger than the original GIF?
A simple GIF with a few flat colors compresses extremely well, and JPEG is built for photographs, not flat areas. Photo-like GIFs usually shrink as JPG; cartoons, charts and pixel art often grow.
Will a portal that asks for JPEG accept this file?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format with two spellings of the extension, and upload checks treat them alike. The output keeps the .jpg ending, which is the more widely listed one.
