Compress JPEG to 50 KB
Application forms rarely want one image. They ask for a photograph, a signature and sometimes a thumb impression or a handwritten declaration, each as a JPEG with its own size band. This page handles the files that need to be 50 KB or less, together in one batch.

Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Scan or photograph each item
Add the photo, signature and any other scans, up to 20 files. Phone pictures, flatbed scans and HEIC files are all accepted.
- 2
Check the 50 KB JPEG target
Target size is 50 KB and Output format is JPG. If an item has exact pixel dimensions, set them under Resize first before compressing that file.
- 3
Compress to JPG and rename
Press Compress to JPG, download, then rename each file (photo.jpg, signature.jpg) so you upload the right one in each field.
Photo and signature always travel together. Get both to the right pixel size first, and 50 KB becomes an easy target for each.
Photo and signature dimensions for a 50 KB JPEG
| Size | Pixels | cm | in | DPI | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3.5×4.5 | 413 × 531 | 3.5 × 4.5 | 1.38 × 1.77 | 300 | Passport-size photograph; reaches 50 KB at high quality |
| 3.5×1.5 | 413 × 177 | 3.5 × 1.5 | 1.38 × 0.59 | 300 | Signature strip; usually 10–20 KB, far under 50 KB |
| 240×240 | 240 × 240 | 3.05 × 3.05 | 1.20 × 1.20 | 200 | IBPS left thumb impression, 20–50 KB |
| 800×400 | 800 × 400 | 10.16 × 5.08 | 4.00 × 2.00 | 200 | IBPS handwritten declaration, 50–100 KB; use a 100 KB target |
Compress JPEG to 50 KB for photo and signature uploads
Bank recruitment through IBPS shows how far these sets go: alongside the photograph and signature, candidates upload a left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration, each a JPEG with its own pixel size and KB band. Most state and university forms ask for at least the first two. Treat them as a set and you avoid the usual failure, where the photo passes and the signature is rejected at the last step.
The pixel sizes matter more than the compression. A 413 × 531 px photograph at JPEG quality around 85 typically weighs 30–50 KB on its own, so the tool barely has to work. A full 12 megapixel phone photo, on the other hand, must lose most of its pixels to reach 50 KB, and if the form also checks dimensions it may end up the wrong shape. Set Resize first to the form's width, then compress.
Scans of paper behave differently from photos. White paper with a few dark strokes compresses extremely well, so a signature often lands at a fraction of 50 KB and may fall below a minimum. A camera photo of a face has smooth skin tones that JPEG handles well but needs more bytes for. Expect the two files from the same form to come out at very different sizes, and check each against its own band.
Before you submit the set
- Each file ends in .jpg or .jpeg and opens on your computer
- The photo is between the form's minimum and maximum KB, with a small margin under the top
- The signature is a separate file and within its own, usually smaller, band
- Pixel dimensions match what the notice prints, if it prints any
- The face is upright and the signature is not rotated; Auto orient handles camera rotation
- File names make clear which field each image belongs in
50 KB JPEG questions
The form needs the photo at 20–50 KB and the signature at 10–20 KB. Can one batch do both?
One target applies to the whole batch, so run two rounds: the photo here at 45–48 KB, then the signature with compress JPEG to 20 KB. Both come out as JPEG, so the file type check passes on each field.
Why does my signature look grey and smudged after compression?
Phone photos of paper pick up shadows and a grey cast that JPEG spends bytes on. Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph it in daylight and crop tightly. Under Advanced settings, Chroma subsampling at 4:4:4 keeps thin strokes cleaner.
Can I compress a thumb impression to 50 KB?
Yes. A left thumb impression in blue or black ink on white paper, cropped to a square such as 240 × 240 px, usually fits well under 50 KB while staying clearly readable. Press firmly once; a smudged print cannot be fixed by compression.
What if the photo comes out under the minimum size, like 15 KB?
A tightly cropped, plain-background photo can be smaller than the band the form wants. Use increase image size to 50 KB for that file only; it adds quality and pixels until the file reaches the minimum.
Do I need the DPI to match the form, for example 200 DPI?
Portals check pixel dimensions and kilobytes, not the DPI number stored in the file. Calculate the pixels from the printed size in centimeters and DPI, as in the table above, and set those under Resize first. The passport size photo in cm, inches and pixels guide has the conversions.
- Compress JPEG to 20 KBGet a JPEG at or just under 20 KB: quality is searched first, pixels shrink only if needed, and phone metadata is stripped so the budget goes to the image.
- Compress JPEG to 100 KBTurn any photo into a real JPEG of 100 KB or less for exam, job and admission portals that accept only .jpg or .jpeg. HEIC and PNG converted on the way.
- Compress Image to 50 KBReduce any photo to 50 KB or just under for application forms, ID uploads and email. Works from iPhone, Android or desktop, up to 20 images at once.
- Compress Signature to 20 KBTurn a scanned or photographed signature into a clean JPG of 20 KB or less, with crisp ink edges and at least 140 px width, for exam and bank forms.
- Increase Image Size to 50 KBRaise a photo, thumb impression or handwritten declaration to 50 KB for bank and exam forms. Saves as JPG, keeps the pixel size, adds no visible change.
- Compress Image to 30 KBGet a JPG or photo down to 30 KB for forms with a 20–50 KB rule. A full 3.5 × 4.5 cm crop at 300 DPI can fit; here is the math and what to do if it does not.
