How to use this tool

    Choose the image

Phone photos, scans and screenshots in JPG, PNG, HEIC or WebP. Up to 20 files per batch, 95 MB each.

  2. 2

    Confirm 300 KB

Target size is 300 KB. If the form limits pixels too, set the longest side under Resize first in Advanced settings; pick JPG under Output format if only JPG is allowed.

  3. 3

    Press Compress

Check the size and dimensions shown with each result before downloading and uploading it.

300 KB is the first common limit at which a face photo stops being a compromise: a 1000 × 1000 px portrait fits at high JPG quality with space to spare.

Forms with a 300 KB photo ceiling

The best-known example is India's Union Public Service Commission. UPSC's online application instructions in recent cycles have asked for the photograph as a JPG between 20 KB and 300 KB, with each side between 350 and 1000 pixels. Unlike bank exam forms that want a fixed 200 × 230 px image, this is a range, so the sensible move is to upload a large, clear photo near the top of it rather than the smallest file that passes. Requirements change between examination years, so read the notice you are applying under, or use the preset UPSC photo resize page.

Compress image to 300 KB at 1000 × 1000 px

A 1000 × 1000 px photo has one million pixels. At 300 KB that is about 2.4 bits per pixel, which for a typical portrait means a JPG quality around 90, with no artifacts you can see. A phone photo at 4032 × 3024 px is twelve times as many pixels, so set Resize first to 1000 px on the longest side for UPSC-style rules, then let the tool fill the budget.

Outside application forms, 300 KB works as a page-weight budget for one large image such as a hero banner or a featured photo. Here Output format set to WebP stretches the same 300 KB further, since every current major browser displays it.

300 KB image questions

Should I upload close to 300 KB or as small as possible?

Close to the top, when the form gives a range. A larger, sharper photo avoids rejections for blur during identity checks. A target of 290 KB keeps that quality and still leaves margin for portals that count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes.

How many pixels fit in a 300 KB JPG?

An everyday photo typically keeps 1500–2000 px on the long side at good quality. A 1000 × 1000 px portrait fits at a very high quality with room left over.

Is 300 KB too heavy for a hero image on a website?

For one large banner it is acceptable; for every picture on a page it is a lot. A 1920 px wide hero often looks fine at 200–300 KB as JPG and smaller as WebP, while thumbnails should stay well under 100 KB.

Can I compress a scanned certificate image to 300 KB?

Yes, as an image. An A4 page scanned at 300 DPI is about 2480 × 3508 px, and at 300 KB the text usually stays readable, especially with Chroma subsampling at 4:4:4 for colored stamps. If the portal asks for a PDF, use compress PDF to 300 KB instead.

Why was my 295 KB file refused by a 300 KB limit?

Windows shows sizes in units of 1,024 bytes, so 295 KB there is 302,080 bytes. A server that reads 300 KB as 300,000 bytes sees that as over the limit. Set Target size to 290 KB and the file passes either way.

Does compressing to 300 KB change my photo's colors or rotation?

No. Keep color profile is on by default, so colors stay as they were, and Auto orient turns sideways phone photos upright using the orientation stored in their EXIF data.
