Compress Image to 25 KB
A 25 KB JPG is the safe middle of the 20–50 KB range that many Indian recruitment and entrance-exam forms set for a photograph. It is big enough to pass the lower limit that trips up so many applicants and small enough to leave room under the cap.
Compress Image
or drop JPG, JPEG, JFIF … files here ·
Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Never shrink below this width when downscaling. 0 means no minimum.
Optionally set the dimensions before compressing. Forms that specify pixels as well as KB need both.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
The search for the target size will not go below this quality; it downscales instead.
4:2:0 halves color resolution and saves a lot on photos; 4:4:4 keeps sharp edges on text, logos and screenshots.
Lossy PNG quantises colors (like TinyPNG) and is far smaller; lossless keeps every pixel.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the photo or scan
Add a phone photo or scan in JPG, PNG, HEIC or WebP. You can add up to 20 files at once.
- 2
Keep 25 KB and JPG output
Target size reads 25 KB and Output format reads JPG. If the notice also fixes pixel dimensions, enter them under Resize first in Advanced settings.
- 3
Compress to JPG and upload
Press Compress to JPG, check the size shown next to each result, then download. Files are deleted from the server 30 minutes after processing.
Most rejected exam photos are not too big, they are too small or the wrong type. A 25 KB JPG answers both: it sits above a 20 KB minimum, below a 30 KB or 50 KB maximum.
25 KB photo size in JPG: where it fits
Application forms in India rarely say "25 KB" outright. They give a range, and 25 KB is the value that satisfies the largest number of them at once. The Staff Selection Commission, IBPS and SBI have all asked for photographs between 20 KB and 50 KB, and IBPS adds a left thumb impression in the same 20–50 KB band. The National Testing Agency, which runs NEET UG and JEE Main, has asked for a signature between 4 KB and 30 KB.
Coming from a phone camera, the photo is typically 2–4 MB, so it has to shrink roughly a hundredfold. The tool does that in two stages: it searches for the highest JPG quality that fits under 25 KB, and only when quality would drop below the Lowest quality allowed does it reduce the pixel dimensions.
| Upload | Range in the notice | Does 25 KB pass? |
|---|---|---|
| SSC photograph | 20–50 KB, JPEG | Yes, with margin both ways |
| IBPS / SBI photograph | 20–50 KB, 200 × 230 px | Yes |
| IBPS left thumb impression | 20–50 KB, 240 × 240 px | Yes |
| NTA signature (NEET UG, JEE Main) | 4–30 KB | Yes, just under the cap |
| SSC / IBPS signature | 10–20 KB | No, use the 20 KB target |
How much quality a 25 KB image keeps
At portal sizes, a lot. A 200 × 230 px photo has 46,000 pixels, and 25 KB gives each one more than 4 bits, which is enough for a JPG quality setting in the high 80s or above. The picture only starts to look smeared when a full 12-megapixel frame is forced into 25 KB without resizing, because then each pixel gets a small fraction of a bit.
So the order of work matters. Crop to head and shoulders first, set the exact dimensions if the notice gives them, and let compression handle the rest. Strip metadata is on by default, which removes camera details and GPS position and frees bytes for the photo itself. For the background on why these steps work, read how to reduce image size in KB.
Upload errors with a 25 KB photo, and fixes
"File size must be between 20 KB and 50 KB" on a file of 18 KB
The source was already tiny. Turn off Allow downscaling and run it again, or start from a larger scan, so the result lands near 25 KB.
"Invalid file format" although the photo looks fine
The file may be HEIC or PNG renamed to .jpg. Keep Output format on JPG so the contents really are JPEG.
"Image dimensions are incorrect"
Set width and height under Resize first to the numbers in the notice before compressing.
The portal shows 26 KB for a file your phone calls 25 KB
Some sites count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes. Lower Target size to 24 for a margin.
25 KB image questions
Why aim for 25 KB when the limit is 50 KB?
Because the rule usually has a floor as well as a ceiling, commonly 20 KB. A file of 25 KB passes both checks with room on either side.
What pixel size should a 25 KB passport photo have?
For the 200 × 230 px photo IBPS and SBI ask for, 25 KB is generous and the photo stays sharp. A 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo at 300 DPI, about 413 × 531 px, also fits with a moderate JPG quality. The passport size photo in cm, inches and pixels guide shows how to work out pixels from centimeters.
Can I make a 25 KB photo from an iPhone HEIC file?
Yes. The output is set to JPG, so a HEIC photo is decoded, compressed and saved as a .jpg file in one step.
Will the result be exactly 25 KB?
It will be at or just under 25 KB, never over. The quality search stops at the highest setting that fits, so a result of 23 or 24 KB is normal and well inside any 20–50 KB rule.
Can I do the signature on this page too?
Only if the form allows up to 30 KB, as NTA forms have. For the common 10–20 KB signature rule, use compress image to 20 KB so the file lands under the 20 KB ceiling.
