AVIF to JPEG Converter

Marketplaces and listing tools ask for JPEG, and product images saved from modern websites often arrive as AVIF. Convert them here to JPEG at quality 90, with any transparent background filled in white.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

    Upload the AVIF images

Add up to 20 .avif files at once, each up to 95 MB.

  2. 2

    Check background and quality

Quality starts at 90 to keep zoomed detail sharp, and transparent areas become white, the color most marketplaces want behind a product. Both are under Advanced settings.

  3. 3

    Convert and list

Press Convert to JPG to get standard JPEG files, then upload them to your listing. Our copies are deleted after 30 minutes.

If a listing tool says the file type is not supported and your image ends in .avif, convert it to JPEG. The photo keeps its size and colors, transparent areas turn white, and the file grows by roughly half to double.

AVIF to JPEG converter for listings and upload forms

AVIF images reach sellers in two ways: product shots saved from a manufacturer's or supplier's website, and exports from newer design and camera apps that offer AVIF as a space-saving option. Both look normal on screen. The problem appears at upload, because seller dashboards, listing apps and many document portals were set up for JPEG, PNG and sometimes GIF, and they compare your file against that list before showing any preview.

Converting to JPEG fixes the type check. This page starts at quality 90 instead of the usual 85 because product photos are inspected closely: shoppers zoom into stitching, labels and textures, and the extra few percent of file size keeps that detail intact. If you are converting a still for an ordinary form rather than a listing, AVIF to JPG uses the lighter defaults.

AVIF

AV1 Image File Format

AVIF stores still images and image sequences compressed with the AV1 video codec, and was finalised by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019. It usually produces smaller files than both JPEG and WebP at the same visual quality and supports transparency, animation, wide colour gamut and HDR. Encoding is slower than older formats, and very fine textures can look smoothed at low quality settings. All major browsers now display AVIF, but many desktop apps, social platforms and older devices cannot open it.

JPG

JPEG image

JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photo format, standardised by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. It uses lossy compression that discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps photos small enough for the web, email and phone storage. It handles smooth gradients and natural scenes well, but sharp text, line art and flat colours pick up visible blocky or fuzzy artefacts. JPEG has no transparency and no animation, and every re-save loses a little more quality. Every browser, phone, camera and image editor can open it.

AVIF to JPEG is what sellers and applicants need when an upload tool names JPEG and has never heard of AVIF; the picture was usually saved from a fast-loading website, and the conversion trades bytes for acceptance.

Who makes AVIF, and why your listing still refuses it

What changes between the AVIF and the JPEG

Dimensions, orientation and colors stay the same. AVIF can store 10- or 12-bit color and wide-gamut profiles, while JPEG is 8-bit; the converter maps everything to sRGB by default, the space marketplaces and browsers assume, so a product's red does not drift toward orange on a customer's phone. Transparent areas are filled with the color you set, and an animated AVIF gives you its first frame.

Size moves the other way from what you might expect. AVIF's AV1 coding beats JPEG's 1992 design comfortably, so a 150 KB AVIF product shot typically becomes a JPEG of 250 to 350 KB at quality 90. That is well within any marketplace limit. For a portal with a strict cap, convert first and then use a size target such as compress image to 200 KB.

Need the picture to stay transparent for a design tool instead of a listing? AVIF to PNG keeps the alpha channel.

AVIF to JPEG questions

Will Amazon or Etsy accept a .jpg when the guidelines say JPEG?

Yes. JPEG is the format and .jpg is its most common extension; seller tools accept both spellings. What they reject is the AVIF itself, whatever the file is named.

What happens to a transparent AVIF product cut-out?

JPEG has no transparency, so the empty area is filled with the color under Transparent areas, white by default. That matches marketplace main-image rules, which ask for a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255).

Can I use product images saved from a supplier's website?

Only with permission from whoever owns them, which many suppliers grant to resellers in writing. Format-wise they convert like any other AVIF, but check the pixel size: images served to browsers are often smaller than marketplace zoom requires.

Which JPEG quality keeps product zoom sharp?

90, the default on this page. It keeps fabric texture and small print readable when shoppers zoom. Drop to 80 only if a tool caps file size, and resize rather than going lower.

Do iPhones and Macs open AVIF without converting?

Yes, since iOS 16 and macOS Ventura in 2022, so the file previews fine on your own devices. That does not help with upload forms, which check their own list of accepted types.
