MOBI to PDF Converter
A MOBI file has no pages until a Kindle draws them. Converting it to PDF fixes the text onto pages of a size you choose, so the book prints, opens on any computer and looks the same everywhere.

0 keeps the book's own size. E-readers let the reader change size anyway; this mainly matters for PDF, DOCX and TXT output.
Space around the text on each page. 5 mm suits e-ink screens; use 15–20 mm for a PDF you plan to print.
Justified text has straight edges on both sides like a printed book; left-aligned avoids wide gaps between words on small screens.
A5 is close to a paperback and reads well on tablets. Match device sizes the page to the reading device chosen above.
Keep the book's cover, use the first image as the cover (comics and photo books), or leave the book without one.
JPEG quality for pictures and comic pages. 85 looks identical on e-ink; lower it to shrink large comics.
Leave empty to keep the title stored in the file. This is the name shown in the reader's library.
Leave empty to keep the existing author.

What changes when a MOBI e-book becomes a PDF?
The text stops reflowing. Chapters, images and the contents list stay, but each page is cut at a fixed size, font and margin, so pick a page size that matches where you will read or print it.
From reflowable MOBI to fixed PDF pages
MOBI started life in 2000 as the format of Mobipocket, a French reader for PDAs, and became Amazon's first Kindle format after Amazon bought the company in 2005. Like EPUB, it stores a book as a stream of HTML-like text with no page boundaries; the reading device decides where each line breaks.
A PDF works the other way around. Every page has a fixed width and height, and every word sits at a measured position on it. The converter lays the book out once, the way a typesetter would: it takes your page size, subtracts the margins, sets the body text at the chosen size, then breaks paragraphs into lines and lines into pages. Chapter starts begin on a new page. Headings, italics and inline images come along.
Those choices are permanent in a PDF, so decide first whether the file is for printing, a laptop screen or a tablet.

MOBI
Mobipocket ebook
MOBI is an ebook format created by Mobipocket around 2000; Amazon bought the company in 2005 and used MOBI as the basis of early Kindle books. It supports reflowable text, bookmarks and basic formatting but handles complex layouts, fonts and images poorly. Amazon has phased MOBI out in favour of EPUB uploads and its newer KF8/AZW3 format. Older Kindles and Calibre still read it.

Portable Document Format
PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

People turn MOBI into PDF to print an old Kindle-era e-book or read it on a computer without Kindle software, trading reflowable text for fixed pages that look identical on every screen.
Before you convert MOBI to PDF
- The file is DRM-free: a public-domain download, a purchase from a DRM-free store or your own manuscript.
- PDF page size matches the plan: A5 for screens and booklets, Letter or A4 for full-page printing.
- Page margins are 15–20 mm if the PDF will be printed and bound, 5–10 mm for screen reading.
- Base font size is set to 11 or 12 pt for print; 0 keeps the size stored in the book.
- Title and Author are filled in if the MOBI shows up as "Unknown" in your library.
Why old MOBI files keep turning up
Amazon moved its own books to the newer KF8 format in 2011, stopped accepting MOBI uploads for new Kindle Direct Publishing titles in 2021, and removed MOBI from Send to Kindle in late 2022. The files did not disappear, though: library backups from the 2000s, free classics and indie titles sold as MOBI are still around, and a PDF opens them on any computer without a Kindle app.
If you want to keep reading on an e-reader instead, a PDF is the wrong target: small screens make fixed pages hard to read. Convert with MOBI to EPUB for Kobo, Apple Books or a current Kindle. For Kindle files ending in .azw3, the AZW3 to PDF page uses the same settings with print-ready defaults.
MOBI to PDF questions
Why does the PDF have a different number of pages than my Kindle showed?
A Kindle has no fixed pages; it lays out the text for its own screen and font size, and the page numbers you may see come from a separate mapping to a print edition. The PDF page count depends only on the PDF page size, Base font size and Page margins you choose. A5 with 10 mm margins produces roughly as many pages as a trade paperback.
Can I print a MOBI book as a booklet?
Yes, convert with PDF page size set to A5 and print the PDF with your printer's booklet option on Letter or A4 paper; two A5 pages fit side by side on one A4 sheet. Set Page margins to at least 15 mm so text does not run into the fold.
Do pictures and chapter links survive the move to PDF?
Images inside the MOBI are placed on the page at a size that fits the margins. With Table of contents on, chapter headings become PDF bookmarks and a linked contents page, so you can jump between chapters in Acrobat, Preview or a browser.
My PDF is larger than the MOBI. How do I shrink it?
Embedded fonts and full-quality images add weight. Turn off Embed fonts and lower Image quality to 70, or run the finished file through Compress PDF. A text-only novel normally stays small either way.
Why does the converter refuse a MOBI I downloaded from my Kindle?
Books bought from the Kindle Store carry Amazon's DRM, which ties them to your account and devices. This tool reads DRM-free files only and stops on encrypted ones rather than producing a blank PDF.
