0 keeps the book's own size. E-readers let the reader change size anyway; this mainly matters for PDF, DOCX and TXT output.
Space around the text on each page. 5 mm suits e-ink screens; use 15–20 mm for a PDF you plan to print.
Justified text has straight edges on both sides like a printed book; left-aligned avoids wide gaps between words on small screens.
A5 is close to a paperback and reads well on tablets. Match device sizes the page to the reading device chosen above.
Keep the book's cover, use the first image as the cover (comics and photo books), or leave the book without one.
JPEG quality for pictures and comic pages. 85 looks identical on e-ink; lower it to shrink large comics.
Leave empty to keep the title stored in the file. This is the name shown in the reader's library.
Leave empty to keep the existing author.

What an AZW3 file is
- AZW3 (KF8)KF8 · Kindle Format 8 · .azw3 · .kf8
- Amazon's Kindle Format 8, introduced in 2011 alongside the first Kindle Fire. It wraps HTML5 and CSS3 content, embedded fonts and images in a Mobipocket-style container that Kindles from 2011 onward can read.
The CSS support is what makes AZW3 a better source for a PDF than old MOBI. Drop caps, small caps, centered chapter titles, indented poetry and embedded typefaces all survive the trip, because the converter can read the styling instead of guessing it. What a PDF adds is fixed geometry: a page height, margins and line positions that never move.
Most AZW3 files people want to convert come from three places: books built with Calibre or Kindle Create for sideloading, DRM-free purchases from small publishers, and personal documents sent to a Kindle years ago. Store purchases are encrypted, and Amazon has also been moving store books to KFX, so a file you copy off a recent Kindle may not be AZW3 at all.

AZW3
Kindle Format 8 (AZW3)
AZW3, also called KF8, is the Kindle ebook format Amazon introduced in 2011. It is based on HTML5 and CSS3, so it supports embedded fonts, better layouts and richer formatting than MOBI. Books bought from the Kindle Store may be wrapped in DRM, but DRM-free AZW3 files can be read in Calibre and sent to Kindle devices. Non-Amazon e-readers and apps generally do not support it.

Portable Document Format
PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

AZW3 to PDF is for readers who own a DRM-free Kindle-format book and want to print it, annotate it at a desk or archive it in a format any computer opens without Amazon software.
When an AZW3 to PDF conversion goes wrong
The file is reported as protected
It came from the Kindle Store with DRM. Only DRM-free copies convert; check whether the publisher sells a DRM-free edition.
Text runs into the binding when printed
Raise Page margins to 20 mm and convert again; printing double-sided eats into the inner edge.
Body text looks huge or tiny
The book sets its own sizes. Set Base font size to 11 pt to override them, or 0 to keep the book's choice.
No clickable chapters in the PDF
Turn on Table of contents. Chapters are found from the book's own navigation, so a book built without headings cannot gain them.
The PDF is too big to email
Lower Image quality, or shrink the result with Compress PDF.
AZW3 to PDF questions
How do I tell whether my AZW3 has DRM?
Books you downloaded from the Kindle Store, including through Download & Transfer via USB, are protected. Files you built yourself, bought from DRM-free indie stores or exported from Calibre after converting an EPUB are not. If the tool reports the file as protected, that is the reason.
What is the difference between AZW, AZW3 and KFX?
AZW is the older Kindle format, essentially MOBI with Amazon's DRM; AZW3 is Kindle Format 8 from 2011 with HTML5 and CSS3 styling; KFX is the newer internal format current Kindles use for store books. This page reads AZW3, and older .azw files go through AZW to PDF. KFX is not accepted.
Will the fonts from the AZW3 appear in the PDF?
Yes, when the book embeds them and Embed fonts is on. Books that rely on the Kindle's built-in Bookerly or Ember fonts carry no font files, so the PDF uses a standard serif face instead.
Can I check an AZW3 before converting it?
Amazon's free Kindle Previewer for Windows and macOS opens AZW3 files and shows how they look on different Kindles. It is a quick way to confirm the book itself is fine before you blame the conversion.
Is a PDF of a Kindle book good for reading on a Kindle?
Only on the large Kindle Scribe. On a 6- or 7-inch screen a Letter-size page shrinks to tiny text, because a PDF cannot reflow. For a smaller Kindle, keep the AZW3, or set PDF page size to Match device screen so each page is cut to the screen.
