How do I convert HTML to Word?
Save the page as an .html file, upload it and press Convert to DOCX (Word). The DOCX keeps headings as Word heading styles, plus lists, tables, links and images, refitted to a Letter or A4 page.
Convert HTML to Word: who needs an editable copy of a web page
Web content usually starts its life in a CMS and ends up needing a document. Legal and compliance teams review published terms with tracked changes. Editors pull an old blog post into Word to rework it for print. Agencies hand a client the text of a landing page for sign-off. Support teams export help-center articles as HTML and need them as manuals.
Word can open a local .html file itself, but it keeps it in Web Layout view, still tied to web styling and to images stored next to the page. Converting writes a real DOCX: every heading becomes a Word style, tables become Word tables, and the content is reflowed for a printed page. For the opposite trip, publishing a Word document on the web, use DOCX to HTML.
Why a 1200 px web layout has to fit a 6.5 inch column
| Size | Pixels | cm | in | DPI | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Letter page | 816 × 1056 | 21.59 × 27.94 | 8.5 × 11 | 96 | Word's default paper in the US |
| Letter text column | 624 wide | 16.51 | 6.5 | 96 | With Word's default 1 in margins |
| A4 page | 794 × 1123 | 21.0 × 29.7 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 96 | Default paper in most other countries |
| A4 text column | 602 wide | 15.92 | 6.27 | 96 | With 2.54 cm margins |

HTML
HyperText Markup Language
HTML is the markup language of the web, first described by Tim Berners-Lee in the early 1990s and now maintained by WHATWG as a living standard. An HTML file describes headings, paragraphs, links, tables, images and forms, while styling usually comes from CSS. Every browser renders it, and it is also used for email templates and saved web pages. A single HTML file often depends on external images and stylesheets, so it may look broken when moved on its own.

DOCX
Microsoft Word document
DOCX is Microsoft Word's default document format since Office 2007, based on the Office Open XML standard (ECMA-376, ISO/IEC 29500). It is a ZIP package of XML files holding text, styles, images, tables, comments and tracked changes. It is the most common format for editable documents in offices, schools and job applications. Layout can shift slightly between Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages, especially with complex formatting. Most word processors open DOCX files.

HTML goes to Word when content published on the web has to enter an editing or approval workflow: a legal team marking up website terms, an editor reworking a blog post, or a writer pulling an old article back into a manuscript.
CSS defines a pixel as 1/96 of an inch, which is why the table above uses 96 DPI. A typical desktop site lays out its content 1,000 to 1,400 px wide, roughly twice the width of a Word text column, so wide images and tables are scaled down to fit and sidebars fall below the main text. That is expected and keeps the document printable.
Images need one extra thought. When a browser saves a page as Webpage, Complete, it puts the pictures in a separate _files folder, and only the .html file is uploaded here. Pictures embedded in the page itself come across; to make sure the rest do too, insert them in Word afterwards, or convert a Markdown copy of the content with Markdown to DOCX.
HTML to Word converter questions
Will web headings become real Word heading styles?
Yes. h1 to h6 elements map to Word's Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles, so the Navigation pane works and Word can build a table of contents from them straight away.
How do I convert only the article and not the site's menus?
The converter keeps everything in the file, including navigation lists and footers, because HTML gives no reliable sign of which part is the article. Delete those parts in Word afterwards, or save the site's printer-friendly version of the page if it has one.
Can I turn an HTML email template into a Word document?
Yes. Email templates are built from nested tables, and those arrive as Word tables. Expect to remove some empty spacer cells; the text, links and images inside them stay where they were.
Do the links stay clickable in the DOCX?
Yes, links remain hyperlinks with their original addresses. Relative links such as /pricing lose their site, so check those if the document will be read away from the website.
Can I get a Google Doc from an HTML file this way?
Convert to DOCX here, upload the result to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. The headings, tables and links convert into Docs' own formatting on import.
Is Word or PDF better for printing a web page?
Word, when you want to edit, trim or annotate before printing. If the page should print exactly as it looks with no editing, HTML to PDF gives a fixed copy instead.
