DXF to PNG Converter
A DXF shows nothing until it is opened in CAD or CAM software, which is a problem for a product listing, a quote or a parts catalog. This page renders the drawing as a PNG so anyone can see the part before they buy, cut or approve it.

Model space is the full drawing. All layouts exports each paper-space sheet as its own page, as set up in AutoCAD.
Fit to page scales the drawing to fill the sheet. Actual size keeps drawing units 1:1 (1 mm in the drawing = 1 mm on paper) and may span a larger page.
Same as source uses the size set in each layout. A1 and A0 are the usual plotter sheets for architectural drawings.
Auto turns the page to match the drawing's longer side.
Monochrome prints every line black, like plotting with a monochrome.ctb style — best for printed plans on white paper.
White suits printing. Black looks like the AutoCAD drawing area; transparent works for placing the drawing in other documents (not available in JPG).
300 DPI is print quality; 150 is enough for screens. At A1 and 600 DPI an image is 14,000 px wide, so higher values make very large files.
Only used when the input is a photo or scan (JPG, PNG). Outline draws the edges of shapes, good for logos and laser cutting; centreline draws single lines through strokes, good for scanned line drawings and plotters.
Pixels darker than this become lines. Raise it if faint lines are missing, lower it if background noise turns into shapes.
Higher values give fewer, smoother curves; lower values follow the pixels more closely but create more points.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload DXF files
Add up to 20 DXF files, 95 MB each, from any AutoCAD version back to Release 12. A whole folder of cut files can go in one batch.
- 2
Pick a resolution
Resolution is 150 DPI and Scale is Fit to page, so each part fills the image. Use line weights is off, giving even lines; Background is white.
- 3
Convert to PNG
Press Convert to PNG and download each preview, or the batch as a ZIP. The files are deleted from the server after 30 minutes.
Why DXF files need PNG previews
DXF is the lingua franca of cutting: laser, plasma, waterjet and CNC router software all import it, and Release 12 DXF, from 1992, is still the version many controllers expect. It is usually a plain-text file of coordinates, so neither phones nor file browsers show a thumbnail of it, and attaching one to an email tells the recipient nothing until they open CAD.
That gap shows up everywhere parts change hands. Sellers of laser-cut designs need listing photos, job shops send customers a picture of what will be cut for approval, and engineers drop a part outline into a work instruction. A PNG is lossless, so thin lines stay sharp, and it opens in every browser and phone gallery.

Rarely needed; very large files
With Fit to page, the resolution decides how many pixels the drawing gets, and the part is scaled to fill them. With Actual size (1:1), the drawing's own units decide: a 200 mm bracket at 150 DPI is about 1181 px wide, and the same bracket in a DXF drawn in inches but read as millimeters would come out 25.4 times off. Fit is the safer preset for previews.
Lines are drawn one pixel thin with Use line weights off, which suits cut files, since most of them carry no weights anyway. For a file to edit rather than look at, DXF to SVG keeps the geometry as vectors.
DXF
Drawing Exchange Format
DXF is a CAD data exchange format published by Autodesk in 1982. It describes drawing geometry and layers in a documented text (or binary) structure, so many programs that cannot read DWG can read DXF. It is widely used for laser cutters, CNC routers, plasma cutters and vinyl cutters. DXF files are larger than DWG and may lose some advanced features during exchange.

Portable Network Graphics
PNG is a lossless raster format published in 1996 by the PNG Development Group and later standardised by the W3C and ISO. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports full alpha transparency and handles text, sharp edges and flat colours without artefacts. That precision makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and interface graphics. The trade-off is size: photographs saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. All browsers, operating systems and editors open PNG files.

DXF to PNG gives CAD parts and cut files a visible face: a preview image for listings, quotes, catalogs and chats, where nobody will install CAD software just to see what a file contains.

DXF to PNG questions
How do I make preview images for DXF files I sell online?
Upload the whole set here at once and download the PNGs as a ZIP. Marketplaces such as Etsy display images, not CAD files, so each DXF listing needs at least one picture; a clean line drawing on white is the usual first image.
Why is my DXF to PNG preview almost empty with a tiny part in the corner?
The drawing has stray objects far from the part, often a dot at the origin or a leftover line, so the fitted extents are huge. Delete them in CAD, or run a purge and zoom-extents check, and convert again.
Can I see the real size of the part in the PNG?
Not directly: a PNG has pixels, not millimeters. Add a dimension or a scale bar in the DXF before converting, or send DXF to PDF, which can print at actual size.
Why do my DXF lines look jagged in the PNG?
Thin diagonal lines at a low resolution land on few pixels. Raise Resolution to 300 DPI, or turn on Use line weights if the drawing has weights assigned; both give the renderer more pixels for every edge.
Can a DXF part be rendered on a transparent background?
Yes. Switch Background to Transparent to place the part over a photo of the material or a colored product page. Remember that black lines on a dark page will vanish; Monochrome or Original colors can be adjusted to suit.
