Compress PDF to 250 KB
When a form says "PDF up to 250 KB", it means the file's weight, not its page size. This tool keeps every page at its original dimensions and reduces the images inside until the whole document is at or just under 250 KB.
Compress PDF
or drop PDF files here ·
Max 95 MB per file· Up to 20 files· Deleted after 30 minutes
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after 30 minutes.
Images above this DPI are downsampled. 150 is sharp on screen and fine for office printing; 72 is screen-only.
JPEG quality for re-compressed images. 70 keeps scanned text readable; below 40 artefacts appear around letters.
When aiming for a target size, image quality never drops below this; resolution is reduced instead.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload the full document
Add the PDF with every page the form asks for. You can queue up to 20 files at once, each up to 95 MB.
- 2
Check the 250 KB target
Compress by is on Target size with 250 KB. Type a lower number, such as 240, if the portal rejects files at the exact limit.
- 3
Compress and download
Press Compress, then download each PDF or the whole batch as a ZIP and upload them field by field.
How do I resize a PDF to 250 KB without changing the pages?
Upload it here and press Compress. The target is set to 250 KB, and only the images inside the PDF are reduced; page size, text and links stay the same.
PDF resize to 250 KB: file size, not page size
Upload rules use "resize" loosely. A recruitment or admission notification that asks you to resize a document to 250 KB is talking about bytes, and a portal checks it the same way: it reads the file's size and refuses anything larger. Page dimensions never come into it. Shrinking an A4 page to half size on screen would not save a single byte, because the images on it would keep the same pixels.
250 KB tends to appear for documents that run past two pages: an experience letter with an annexure, three months of salary slips, a rent agreement summary or a short medical report. It is less common than 200 KB or 300 KB, so read the field's limit closely; a 300 KB file that would pass the next field fails here.

Getting a multi-page scan below 250 KB
Count the pages first
Divide 250 KB by the page count. Five pages leave about 50 KB each, which is grayscale territory; two pages leave room for color.
Merge, then compress
Join separate scans into one file before you compress, so the target covers the whole document and not one page.
Drop blank backs
Duplex scanners save the empty reverse of each sheet. Delete those pages; each one still costs bytes in paper texture.
Flatten filled forms
Flatten form fields turns typed answers into page content, so the reviewer sees them in any viewer.
For a five-page grayscale file the compressor typically lands near 150 DPI with JPEG quality in the 50s or 60s, a setting where letters stay crisp on screen and print acceptably on an office laser printer. Ghostscript's /ebook preset, used by many free compressors, also downsamples to 150 DPI, so the result looks familiar if you have compared tools before.
When separate scans have to become one upload, merge PDF joins them in the order you choose. The guide on compressing a PDF without losing quality explains the settings under Advanced settings in more depth.
250 KB PDF questions
Does "PDF resize 250 KB" change the page size of my document?
No. Page dimensions stay exactly as they were: an A4 page is still 210 × 297 mm and prints at the same size. Only the images inside get fewer pixels or stronger compression. If a portal wants the pages themselves converted to A4, use resize PDF to A4 first.
How many scanned pages can a 250 KB PDF hold?
Typically three to five A4 pages in grayscale at 150 DPI, depending on how much ink each page carries. A page full of tables costs more than a letter with wide margins. In color, plan on about half as many.
Why is my 250 KB PDF bigger than the one I compressed to 200 KB yesterday?
Each run aims for the number in Target size and spends the whole budget on image quality, so a 250 KB target produces a larger, sharper file than a 200 KB one. That is expected; the file is still under the limit you set.
Can I compress salary slips from three months into one 250 KB file?
Yes, if they are combined first. Downloaded payslips are usually text PDFs of a few dozen kilobytes each, so three of them merged often fit with no compression at all. Scanned payslips need grayscale.
What do I do if a single page is already over 250 KB after compression?
That happens with a dense color page, like a brochure or a photo-heavy certificate, where the tool keeps resolution high enough to stay readable. Turn on Convert to grayscale, or lower Lowest image quality to let JPEG compression go further before resolution drops.
