CBZ to PDF Converter
CBZ is the comic format of choice for reader apps, but book stores and reading services ask for PDF. Convert a CBZ and each page image lands on its own PDF page, sized to a tablet screen, in the order the archive lists it.

0 keeps the book's own size. E-readers let the reader change size anyway; this mainly matters for PDF, DOCX and TXT output.
Space around the text on each page. 5 mm suits e-ink screens; use 15–20 mm for a PDF you plan to print.
Justified text has straight edges on both sides like a printed book; left-aligned avoids wide gaps between words on small screens.
A5 is close to a paperback and reads well on tablets. Match device sizes the page to the reading device chosen above.
Keep the book's cover, use the first image as the cover (comics and photo books), or leave the book without one.
JPEG quality for pictures and comic pages. 85 looks identical on e-ink; lower it to shrink large comics.
Leave empty to keep the title stored in the file. This is the name shown in the reader's library.
Leave empty to keep the existing author.

How do I convert a CBZ comic to PDF?
Upload the .cbz and press Convert to PDF. The archive is unpacked, its images are placed one per page in file-name order at your chosen screen size, and the first page becomes the cover.
Why comic readers convert CBZ to PDF
A CBZ is nothing more than a ZIP archive renamed so comic readers recognize it. Inside are JPEG, PNG or sometimes WebP page images, and often a ComicInfo.xml file with series and credits. Because ZIP is an open format, CBZ files are easy to make: select the images, compress them, change the extension. That simplicity made CBZ the default for digital comics from independent creators, Humble Bundle comic bundles and scanning projects.
The trouble is that the big reading platforms ignore it. Apple Books, Google Play Books and Amazon's Send to Kindle all accept PDF and none accept CBZ, so a library you want to keep next to your other books has to change format. Printing services and school or library systems usually ask for PDF too.
Setting PDF page size to Match device screen sizes every page to the screen you read on instead of a paper size. Tablet works for iPad and Android tablets, while Kindle Scribe gives a tall page that fills the 10.2-inch e-ink display.
Where a comic needs to be a PDF, not a CBZ
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Send to Kindle | Accepts PDF, EPUB and images; CBZ and CBR are not accepted. | — |
| Apple Books | Imports EPUB and PDF into the library; CBZ needs a separate comic app. | — |
| Google Play Books | Uploads take EPUB and PDF only; comic archives are rejected. | — |
| Print-on-demand and copy shops | Expect a PDF with one page per sheet, not an archive of images. | — |
CBZ
Comic Book ZIP archive
CBZ is a ZIP archive containing a comic's pages as numbered image files, usually JPEG or PNG. The format has no formal specification; the .cbz extension simply tells comic readers to show the images as pages in order. It is popular for digital comics, manga and scanned graphic novels because it is simple and lossless. Comic apps open it directly, and renaming it to .zip reveals the images.

Portable Document Format
PDF was created by Adobe in 1993 and became the open ISO 32000 standard in 2008. It fixes text, fonts, images and layout so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. PDFs can contain forms, signatures, links, attachments and searchable text, and the PDF/A variant is used for long-term archiving. The fixed layout makes PDFs hard to edit, and scanned PDFs contain only images unless OCR is applied. Every browser and operating system can open them.

CBZ to PDF is for comic readers moving issues into a store library, a reading service or a print shop that accepts PDF, since none of the major e-book platforms take a ZIP of page images.
Preparing a CBZ before converting it to PDF
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Number pages with leading zeros (001.jpg to 120.jpg) so they sort correctly. | Mix two issues in one archive; their pages interleave by name. |
| Keep the cover as the first file in the archive. | Push Image quality to 100 for scans that were already JPEG. |
| Convert one issue per CBZ so page numbering stays clean. | Use A4 pages for a tablet; margins appear around the art. |
| Use Kindle Scribe as the device for e-ink reading at a usable size. | Expect a 6-inch Kindle to show a full comic page legibly. |
CBZ to PDF questions
What is the difference between CBZ and CBR?
Only the archive underneath: CBZ is a ZIP file of images, CBR is a RAR file. ZIP is an open format every operating system can open, which is why CBZ has become the more common choice for newer releases. The CBR to PDF page handles RAR-based comics.
Does the ComicInfo.xml inside my CBZ carry over?
ComicInfo.xml, the metadata file popularized by ComicRack, holds series, issue number, writer and artist. PDF has no fields for most of these; the title and writer can be set with Title and Author, and the XML file itself is not added to the PDF as a page.
Can I open a CBZ without converting it?
Yes, in comic readers such as YACReader, CDisplayEx, Panels on iPad or Kodi's comic add-ons. You can also rename it to .zip and look at the images in any file manager, or use Unzip online. Convert when the place you read or share requires PDF.
Why is the PDF so much bigger than the CBZ?
It should be about the same size, since the page images are reused. If it grew, Image quality was higher than the source compression; set it to 75–85. If you need it smaller still, Grayscale images helps for black-and-white manga.
Will the pages read right to left for manga?
The pages follow the archive order, which for manga already runs from the first page of the volume to the last. What a PDF cannot store reliably is a right-to-left flag that every app honors, and most PDF readers lay out two-page spreads left to right. Manga therefore reads best in single-page view.
