WiFi QR Code Generator
Type the network name and password once, print the code, and nobody has to read a 20-character password off the back of a router again. Phone cameras recognize the format and offer to join the network directly.
QR Code Generator
Network name is required.
Nothing is uploaded; the code is generated for you to download.
Width and height of the PNG in pixels. 1000 px prints sharply up to about 8 cm; vector formats ignore this.
Blank border around the code, counted in modules (the small squares). Scanners need at least 4 on a busy background.
Higher levels still scan when part of the code is dirty or covered by a logo, but the pattern becomes denser.
Keep it dark. Light codes on dark backgrounds fail on many older phone cameras.
Needs strong contrast with the code color; white is the safest choice.
How to use this tool
- 1
Enter the network details
Type the Network name exactly as phones list it, then the Wi-Fi password. Security starts on WPA/WPA2/WPA3; choose No password for an open network.
- 2
Check the scan settings
This page starts Error correction at High (25%), because wall codes get scuffed and taped over. Change size, colors or the download format under Advanced settings.
- 3
Generate and try to join
Press Generate, then forget the network on your own phone and scan the code. If it joins, print it; if it fails, check capital letters and spaces in the name.
How do I create a QR code for my Wi-Fi?
Enter the network name, the password and the security type, press Generate, and print the code. Guests point their camera at it and tap Join.
What a Wi-Fi QR code actually contains
There is no link and no server involved. The code holds one line of text in the WIFI: format popularized by ZXing, Google's open-source barcode library, and the phone's operating system turns that line into a join prompt. T is the security type, S the network name (SSID) and P the password; the line ends with two semicolons.
Because the password sits in the code as plain text, anyone with a scanner app can read it, not just join with it. That is why the format suits guest networks well and your main network poorly.

WiFi QR code limits and phone support
- Longest network name the Wi-Fi standard allows
- 32 bytes
- Characters in a WPA or WPA2 passphrase
- 8–63
- First iPhone camera to join from a code (2017)
- iOS 11
- Added a QR scanner to Wi-Fi settings (2019)
- Android 10
The Network name and Wi-Fi password fields follow those limits. Names and passwords with a semicolon, comma, colon, quote or backslash need a backslash in front of that character inside the string; the generator escapes them for you, but it is worth a test scan when your password is full of symbols. Choose WEP only for a router old enough to offer nothing else, since WEP has been considered broken for years. Some routers set to WPA3 only reject older phones whatever the code says, so test with the oldest device your guests are likely to bring.
Printing a guest Wi-Fi QR code for a café, office or rental
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Use a separate guest network with its own password | Put your main home or office network on a public wall |
| Print the network name and password under the code for laptops | Crop the white border when placing the code in a design |
| Keep the code at least 3 cm wide on a table card | Print a light code on a dark background |
| Laminate wall signs; scratches and grease defeat scanners | Leave an old code up after changing the password |
For a framed sign or a menu insert, download SVG or PDF so the print stays sharp; the SVG QR code page covers sizes for print. A short-term rental can pair the Wi-Fi code with a location QR code for the parking spot, which saves a lot of messages from guests who arrive at night.
WiFi QR code questions
Do I need an app to scan a Wi-Fi QR code?
Not on current phones. The iPhone camera has read QR codes since iOS 11 and shows a banner to join the network, and Android 10 added a QR scanner to the Wi-Fi settings screen; many Android camera apps read the code directly as well. Older phones need a scanner app.
What happens to the code when I change my Wi-Fi password?
It stops working, because the old password is printed inside it. Generate a new code with the new password and replace the printed one. Routers that rotate guest passwords automatically need a new code after every change.
Does a Wi-Fi QR code work for a hidden network?
The format has an optional hidden flag, but this generator has no switch for it, and hidden networks are awkward for guests anyway. Turn the SSID broadcast back on for the guest network, or type the hidden network in manually on each device.
Can I share my home Wi-Fi from my phone instead of printing a code?
Yes. On Android 10 and later, open the saved network in Wi-Fi settings and tap Share to show a QR code on screen. iPhones offer to share the password with a nearby iPhone in your contacts. A printed code is for guests you do not want to hand your phone to.
Can I make Wi-Fi codes for every room of a hotel?
If each room has its own network or password, write the WIFI: strings in a spreadsheet and paste the column into the bulk QR code generator. Each line becomes its own code in one ZIP.
