SVG to Icon Converter
One vector logo can feed every icon slot you have: a favicon, a Windows shortcut, a Mac app and the launcher icons on phones. This page starts on a multi-size ICO and lets you switch to ICNS or PNG for the other platforms.

85 keeps photos visually identical to the original. Lower it only when you need a smaller file.
JPG, BMP and EPS have no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with this color.
Hex color used behind transparent pixels, e.g. #FFFFFF.
This format holds a single image. Choose GIF or WebP output if you want to keep the animation.
A multi-size icon contains several resolutions in one file; browsers and operating systems pick the one they need.
Keep the original dimensions, or enter one side and the aspect ratio is kept.
Pixels for the side you chose above.
Percentage of the original dimensions.
sRGB is right for screens and the web. Keep the original for print workflows; grayscale discards color.
Metadata only, 0 keeps the original value. Printers and some portals read this number; it does not change pixel dimensions.
How to use this tool
- 1
Upload a square SVG
Add the SVG of your mark, ideally with a square viewBox. You can add up to 20 files at once, for example a light and a dark variant.
- 2
Choose the icon format
ICO with Icon sizes set to All sizes (16–256) is preselected. Pick ICNS under Convert to for macOS, or PNG with a width under Resize output image for a phone or store icon.
- 3
Convert and place the files
Press Convert to ICO (the label follows the format you picked), download, and put each file where its platform expects it.
There is no single icon format. Windows and browsers use ICO, macOS uses ICNS, and phones use sets of PNGs. Starting from SVG means every one of them is drawn fresh from the vector, sharp at each size.
SVG to icon: one vector, three kinds of icon file
An icon file is a container of small bitmaps, not a vector. The operating system picks the bitmap closest to the size it needs, so a good icon has several, each rendered for its own grid.
The ICO preset on this page writes one file with every size from 16 to 256 px, which covers favicon.ico and Windows shortcuts. Switch Convert to to ICNS for an Apple icon container, or to PNG for the single sizes that Android, iOS and app stores ask for.
The table lists what major platforms publish for their icon slots.
| Organisation | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Windows desktop and taskbar | ICO with several sizes, including 16, 32, 48 and 256 px | — |
| Website favicon | favicon.ico at the site root with 16, 32 and 48 px; a 180 × 180 px PNG for apple-touch-icon | — |
| macOS app icon | ICNS or Xcode asset catalog, sizes up to 1024 × 1024 px | — |
| Google Play store listing | 512 × 512 px 32-bit PNG, up to 1,024 KB | — |
| Apple App Store | 1024 × 1024 px PNG without transparency | — |
SVG
Scalable Vector Graphics
SVG is an XML-based vector format standardised by the W3C in 2001. Instead of pixels it describes shapes, paths and text, so it stays sharp at any size and is usually tiny for logos and icons. It supports transparency, CSS styling, scripting and animation, and every browser renders it natively. SVG is unsuitable for photographs, and complex illustrations can become slow to render. Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and browsers can open and edit it.

ICO
Windows icon
ICO is the Microsoft icon format used for Windows program icons and website favicons. One .ico file can contain several images at different sizes, such as 16×16, 32×32, 48×48 and 256×256 pixels, so the system can pick the best fit. Each image can be stored as a bitmap or as PNG data and supports full alpha transparency. ICO is not meant for photos or large artwork. Browsers, Windows and most icon editors can read it.

People search for SVG to icon when they have one vector logo and several platforms to serve, each with its own icon container, from favicon.ico on a website to ICNS on a Mac and sized PNGs in app stores.
Convert SVG to icon files for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS
Keep ICO and Icon sizes on All sizes. Rename the result favicon.ico for a website root, or point a Windows shortcut's Change Icon dialog to it.
- One .ico serves tabs, bookmarks and the taskbar
- Add a 180 px PNG for iPhone home-screen bookmarks
Choose ICNS under Convert to. The file holds sizes up to 256 px; for an app bundle, also export 512 and 1024 px PNGs for Xcode.
- Use a square SVG with some padding
- Apple's own icons sit on a rounded square; draw it in the SVG if you want that look
Choose PNG and set the width under Resize output image, once per size. Store listings need 512 px for Google Play and 1024 px for the App Store.
- Android adaptive icons use 108 dp layers with a 72 dp safe zone
- Remove transparency from the App Store icon
Designing an SVG that survives 16 px
A 16 × 16 px icon has 256 pixels in total. Most brands keep a separate icon mark, often just the symbol or one letter, with bold shapes and few colors; if yours does not exist yet, make a simplified copy of the SVG for icons.
Check the viewBox before converting. A wide viewBox produces an icon with empty bands above and below the mark, so crop it to a square first; the guide on cropping an image to a ratio covers square crops, and SVG to PNG gives a quick large preview to judge the design.
SVG to icon FAQ
What is the difference between this page and SVG to ICO?
SVG to ICO focuses on the single .ico file for favicons and Windows. This page covers every place an icon goes, including macOS ICNS and the fixed-size PNGs that Android, iOS and app stores ask for.
Which icon format does each operating system use?
Windows reads ICO, macOS reads ICNS or asset catalogs built in Xcode, and Android and iOS take PNG images supplied at fixed pixel sizes.
Can I get every PNG size for my app in one conversion?
No. A PNG holds one size, so each conversion writes one width. Set Resize output image to one size, convert, then change the number and convert again; each size is drawn sharp from the vector.
Does the ICNS from this page cover Retina Mac icons?
It contains sizes from 16 up to 256 px. Current macOS app icons also include 512 px and 1024 px entries for Retina displays, which Xcode or Apple's iconutil build from PNGs; export those two as PNG here and add them to the set.
Should the icon keep a transparent background?
For ICO, ICNS and Android launcher layers, yes: transparency lets the system draw its own backdrop. The iOS App Store icon is the exception; Apple rejects a 1024 px marketing icon with an alpha channel, so give that PNG a solid background in the SVG.
Why does my detailed logo turn into a blob as a small icon?
At 16 or 32 px there is no room for thin lines or small text. Thicken strokes so they cover at least one full pixel at the smallest size, and drop the wordmark.
